There is so much that I could say about education, my background and my passions. However, I know that time is limited, so please allow me to sum up my thoughts. I will do my best to keep it short and sweet.
In my opinion, education is not something that you do for a relatively few years as a child, teenager or young adult. It's an adventure that will not be completed until that-day-that-shall-not-be-mentioned. As a tutor, I try to build a desire for lifelong learning in my students by encouraging them to engage in the world around them. This involves asking questions, thinking critically and "supposing" (thinking creatively). This doesn't look the same for everyone; I strongly feel that it is important to "learn" the student in order to adapt the methods appropriately. My goal is to help the student learn in the way that he/she learns best.
I have a long history
in education. I was a private school teacher for a year, a tutor for 5 years and a public school librarian for three years. I've enjoyed working with students from age 8 through early 50s in subjects as varied as GED
preparation, multiplication tables, essay
, and finding the zeroes of functions
by determining all possible real zeroes (p/q), graphing the function in order to disqualify a portion of the possible zeroes, using synthetic division to isolate one true zero, and factoring
to find the rest. It sounds complicated, but it's actually very fun! (At least, I think it is. Your student may not share that view... yet.) I've seen some students make incredible academic leaps, and I've seen others rejoice over a seemingly small achievement. Every success is worth celebrating.
Those are the highlights of my experience with education (specifically tutoring). If you would like clarification on any point or would like to hear more about me, my methods and/or how I can help you/your student, please email
me! I would love to hear from you!
Good luck on your academic pursuits and "may the odds be ever in your favor."
