Greetings! My name is Michael and I am a senior at Westminster College in Fulton, MO. There, I am majoring in Middle School Math and English Education and Spanish. As an education major I have been formally trained in not just my core subject areas, but also in the proper methods to use in order to teach these reading, writing, and mathematics.
Currently I have four years of tutoring experience. As a high school student I led my school's tutoring program and tutored underclassmen in Civics (government), Algebra I, Chemistry, Biology, and World History. I loved participating in this program and always tried to go the extra mile to help the people I tutored succeed. Many times it seems teachers rush through concepts too quickly and it leaves students behind. Many times in math and in the sciences, students need to build on concepts they learned in the past. Therefore, I think it is important to assess the student's fundamental understanding on a subject before moving on to specific concepts that they are struggling with. I also believe in hands-on education and am willing to bring special activities (especially in math) that will help students better grasp to concepts they are learning in school.
I have a lot of experience working with students from a variety of age ranges. As I stated earlier, while in high school, I tutored other high school students. I also have education practicum hours in a 6-8th grade social studies classroom in North Callaway County and practicum hours in a 6th grade mathematics classroom in Jefferson City, MO. In addition, I served as the youth director at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, MO from May 2011 to October 2012.
Some relevant courses I have taken that will help me tutor your child(ren) are: Algebra I, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Statistics, Methods of Teaching Elementary and Middle School Mathematics, Methods of Teaching Elementary Reading, Methods of Teaching Elementary Writing, Methods of Teaching English in Middle School and High School, Advanced Spanish Conversation, and Advanced Spanish Grammar and Composition, General Chemistry, Introduction to Human Biology, and several political science and history courses.
My favorite subjects to tutor are math, specifically algebra I and algebra II, English, and Spanish. I love all three of these subjects and would love to pass on my passion and knowledge of these three subjects to your child(ren).
