I would like to take a brief moment to introduce myself. My name is Christina and I am a highly energetic learning-lover. I have lived in or traveled to Germany, Dominican Republic, Japan, and India.
I take a radical approach to learning. I firmly believe that if you can connect what you are learning about to something you absolutely love, you will begin to appreciate the process of learning. For example, I was the type of student who thought history
was boring. That is, until my professor explained how crossing an international border started a war, and people's homes and lives were never the same. I loved learning about people, how they work, think, and how I can help them live better. All of a sudden history was very important to me.
I have my Associates Degree in Arts, and my Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Social Work. In an experiential time, I also went to Law
School for a year and half. I am certified in Trauma Studies and have worked with children, young adults, and families in a community setting for 7 years.
How do I tutor? Let's be honest, lecture is not my style. Here's how I prefer to tutor. We begin by going over the assignment, review the information, practice the model/questions, and then you teach it to me. I have found this model to be extremely successful.
Still not sure? Think of it this way.
Imagine you have to prepare for a speech
. We discuss the assignment, you decide on a topic, we do effective research, review the information, format an outline, you practice the speech, and then I'll ask question. The goal of my tutoring sessions is not that you can get an A on a multiple choice exam. I want you to know the information and be able to explain it. Above that, I want you to have all the necessary skills to learn effectively.
I look forward to meeting you, tutoring you, and watching you love learning!
