Dear Prospective Student and Parents.

I have taught developmental writing at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois for one semester and then at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park and at the Harrison Educational Center for the past three years. These are classes to aid students who need refresher courses to pick up what they missed in high school English; therefore, I am well suited to tutoring high school and college students or adults. My method of tutoring is to closely review your speech and writing samples. That way, I can assess your strengths and weaknesses and determine in what areas you need help. Then I will tailor my lessons to meet your needs. I do not believe in wasting our time and your money going over material that you have already mastered. I believe in giving positive comments where it is due and offering corrective suggestions whenever needed. That is how you will improve. When I edit a finished piece, I will, with your approval, note the corrections.

If I sound like someone you'd like to have tutor or edit for you, then please notify me. I look forward to hearing from you. As far as my credentials, please see below. If you would like a proper curriculum vitae, please e-mail and I will forward one.

I am writer. I hold an undergraduate degree in writing from University of Missouri-St. Louis where I was a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the Evening College Honor Society, and Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. I won scholarships for graduate school for three consecutive years from the St. Louis Journalism Society. I hold a Master of Fine Arts degree, also from University of Missouri-St. Louis. I am a member of the St. Louis Poetry Society, the St. Louis Writers Guild and the Missouri Writers Guild.

I have won two coveted Bronze Quill Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), one in editing and the other in public relations writing. Additional awards for my short stories and poetry came from University of Missouri-St. Louis and the St. Louis Poetry Center. I am published in the genres of poetry, short stories-fiction, non-fiction, and magazine article, and on-line newsletters. I am a regular contributor to the website of Walrus Publishing.com. Feel free to click on their website to see samples of my writing. Thank you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have a bachelors in business writing and a master's in Creative Writing from University of Missouri-St. Louis. I am a nationally published writer. I am published in the genres of poetry, short story, and non-fiction. I have won writing awards in poetry, short story and public relations. I am patient and will provide you with a lot of positive feedback.

Grammar

Grammar is a set of rules that apply to the written and spoken word. You probably learned these rules and did know this material once, but many of the fine points now give you trouble. Suddenly are you asked to write a paper, a letter, a memo or an e-mail for work or your personal life. But now, you are unsure if your grammar are correct or not. A refresher course where you learn (or relearn) the rules is a great start toward self-confidence.

Proofreading

I have been an editor for the literary magazine; served as a volunteer editor for the Missouri Organic Farmer's Association; as the newsletter editor for the University of Missouri-St. Louis Department of Communication Department; and the assistant editor of the University of Missouri-St. Louis Evening College. I won a Bronze Quill from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) for being an editor for the UM-St. Louis literary magazine.

Writing

I hold an undergraduate degree in business writing and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. I have taught at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois and at St. Louis Community College for four years. I specialize in helping students write well with particular attention to their grammar and organization.

Wonderful! — Diana was among one of my son's first tutors. As a home-schooled student, he was a bit anxious about entering school as a sixth grader. I hired Diana to ensure that he would be prepared. She was wonderful. She assured us that he had what it takes and filled any gaps. My son has been on honor roll every term since he entered school and is receiving an A in English/Language Arts. Thank you! ...
