As a tutor of English and French, I am both patient and encouraging, offering constructive criticism while helping you learn. I am enthusiastic about teaching, learning, and giving my personal best in life. I have spent 11 years working as a tutor. Communication skills help us build the foundation to succeed in life. I want to help you to be successful! A published author, I also have two Masters degrees: (MSE with both English and French emphasis) and MS in Counseling. With years of teaching experience (25), I know how to help students master integral concepts.

What age groups do I have expertise in teaching and tutoring? My students have ranged from junior high to college level. They have been enrolled in courses like these typically: English, English Honors, Composition, Reading, French I-II. My goal-oriented approach to tutoring is two-fold: to find out where you as a student need help and how you best learn. Both of those factors will indicate how we'll proceed together. Students have told me that I explain very well, breaking down concepts into understandable, digestible bites. What are my credentials? I have a Lifetime Teaching Certificate for both English and French. Besides my two Masters, I have 33 additional post-graduate hours. In France, I studied at Dijon University.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

Having a Masters in Science degree in Education and over (20) twenty years of experience, I have taught public speaking as part of every English course. Speeches included these types: exposition, persuasion, description, and narration. Each one of these speech types would have the same structure such as introduction, body, and conclusion. However, inherent differences differentiated each type as also unique, which was clarified. Some specifics of speech making included the following: Presenting models of speech types, assigning research when needed, discussing key elements such as the "captivating hook," and both maximizing and utilizing voice, poise, and timing to make a successful speech.

Study Skills

Teaching study and listening skills is imperative to student success. Realizing its importance, I began every year in each of my English classes teaching these essential skills. I have taught for over 20 years and have a Masters in Science in Education degree.

Using Socratic method, I start with the basics such as developing a study environment conducive to learning, then building that concept with more advanced skills such as time management/goal setting, effective listening, methods of study, memory, test taking skills, and stress management.
