I am a degreed civil engineer. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1978 with a BSCE degree. Grammar

I have a degree in civil engineering. Communication skills are extremely important. As a result I am extremely careful when I write anything, including e-mails or text messages that might be misunderstood if the punctuation or choice of words is not precisely communicated in the message. Proper use of English grammar is very important to me.

Proofreading

I have a degree in civil engineering. I practice as a civil/structural engineer. Besides using a lot of science and math in my profession, I also write a lot of engineering proposals and technical engineering reports which must be precisely written. As part of my company's quality control measures, I frequently proofread the reports and proposals written by others before the documents leave our office.

Spelling

I have a degree in civil engineering. I practice as a civil/structural engineer. I am a very strong speller. Spelling words correctly on construction documents, drawings, and specifications is extremely important in my profession. Spelling errors can cause a contractor to misinterpret the design intentions. I will not ever knowingly allow a spelling error to leave the office.

This is very important in technical reading.
