I am an outstanding tutor with expertise in the area of chemistry. I was awarded the "Silver Beaker" as the Outstanding Teaching Assistant at the University of Minnesota for the school year 1986-1987.

As an undergraduate at Michigan Technological University, I offered free tutoring in the cafeteria during finals week for any interested students. I tutored general chemistry (of most interest to high school students) and organic chemistry (my particular area of expertise). I also offered private tutoring for my former students (never as active students for ethical reasons) in all areas of chemistry.

I reduce abstract concepts to layman's language, show students how to solve problems, and teach them how to prepare for multiple choice tests (also most common for high school students preparing for college entrance exams). Furthermore, I can adopt methods of teaching to fit the student's ;earning style and will not move on in subject matter until the student feels comfortable in his/her knowledge of the material at hand.

I cannot guarantee that students will do significantly better on their chemistry tests, but I can guarantee they will be prepared to the best of their ability.

Please allow me the opportunity to give you or your child the best available chemistry instruction in the St. Louis area.

The type of chemistry required to be tutored to high school juniors and seniors is what will be called General or Freshman Chemistry in college. For good high school programs, students will find that that general chemistry when taken in college will largely be a repeat of what they learned in high school. The subject matter at this level consists of general chemical properties, periodic table and families of elements, introduction to orbitals and bonding theory, gas laws, balancing chemical equations, and a variety of calculation types. Sometimes students get introduced to very introductory organic chemistry (my particular area of expertise). I have tutored general chemistry in the past and am certain I can help you understand the subject in a straightforward manner.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is the study of the chemistry of carbon compounds, which make up over 95% of the known chemical entities. What makes carbon unique among elements is its ability to form covalent bonds with itself (4 bonds per carbon atom). After preliminary lessons involving bonds/bonding theory, geometrical isomers/stereoisomers, resonance forms, and nomenclature, organic chemistry is taught by functional group type in terms of functional group preparation and transformations. My expertise is within the field of organic chemistry, synthesis to be precise. I am an outstanding tutor with expertise in the area of chemistry. I was awarded the "Silver Beaker" as the Outstanding Teaching Assistant at the University of Minnesota for the school year 1986-1987.
