To all future students and parents: I look forward to working with you to enrich your education or the education of your child.

I am quite proud of my education accomplishments. I have a bachelors degree from Winona State University in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a minor in Biochemistry. During my undergraduate career I was a successful student and graduated with honors, after completing a successful research project, which I presented at a national conference in Washington D.C. I also have a masters degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Microbiology, immunology, and Cancer Biology. During my graduate training my research was mostly cancer biology, specifically, leukemia.

Although I was successful during my educational career no one is more understanding of the impact of a tutor than myself. I always considered myself a good student that had to "work at it". I was not a student who easily remembered something or excelled at something new instantly. I actually utilized tutors in high school and college. I did not view my need for a tutor as a weakness but as a conscious choice to improve my education. Frequently I outscored those students, who I thought were smarter than me, thanks to my tutoring. My experience with tutoring will help me to understand it from the student's perspective and also show the student what can be achieved (a masters degree!) if one is willing to work with a tutor!

My tutoring philosophy is founded on the concept that any student can succeed with help and determination. Math and science are two subject that often do not "click" for students right away (I've been there)! My mission as a tutor is to excite the student about the subject so they enjoy the learning process, rather than being frustrated. In the end, the student will build an appreciation for the subject and therefore, become more dedicated to mastering it. The student's dedication paired with a tutor's patience and expertise makes a successful combination.
