All of Adriana’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Adriana’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

Algebra 1

I have completed 3 years of college level mathematics including Calculus I/II, Multivariable Calculus and Statistics. Additionally I have taught two math students, both high school level and, thus, I have experience teaching basic mathematics and arithmetic. I have my degree from Bryn Mawr College in the History of Art and was pre-med in addition.

Chemistry

While at Bryn Mawr College I was a pre-med student who took three years of college level Chemistry courses. I have successfully completed my MCAT and will be receiving my MPH this Spring before going to medical school. I have tutored high school chemistry in the past and had great success with my tutee who struggled greatly in basic Chemistry. I took the SAT II in Chemistry as a high school student and was in the honours Chemistry class in high school as well. I am well versed in the subject and equipped to enable my students to understand Chemistry and work on their own when I am not present. I am always available by phone or my email when I am not tutoring and my students can contact me if they have any questions.

Cooking

I have been cooking with my family as long as I can remember (Polish Jews put a strong emphasis on food) and have learned to cook each place I have studied (Miami, Italy, Japan, China, and France). In my own kitchen I have cooked from the simplest dishes (Pasta Asciutta) to complex and more elegant meals (varied paella dishes and flambeed sushi I learned from my favorite chefs in Vancouver). I'm a followed foodie and take a very scientific approach to my cooking, making it easier for me to teach others what I know. I keep a blog where I post regular recipes that I pick up in my travels and make myself when I get home. I also do restaurant reviews and post pictures of my cooking endeavors. I can teach to cook or act as a weekly cook, it's labor of love for me!

English

I am a native English speaker who has attended several programs in the past for gifted writers (Stanford Writing for Gifted Students and Oxford University's Lady Margaret Hall Courses for Gifted Writers) as well as published several articles in varied subjects; the history of art (Art Bulletin and Yale Press Review), the medical sciences (American Journal of Oncology), and creative writing publications with Bryn Mawr College, my alma mater. I have been exposed to tutoring many levels of writing and English and am well versed in literary works, grammar, and writing structures. With my love of teaching and my love of writing, I hope to inspire my students with enthusiasm for the beauty of the English language arts.

General Music

I began playing piano at the age of 4 and began competing when I was 7. The competitions began at the state level in Florida with the FFMC (Florida Federation of Music Clubs) and grew by the time I was 10 into national and international competitions ranging from the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the Chopin Competition in Poland. While I receive many of my students through my connections with former judges, I've moved from Minnesota to Miami and am in school, thus this is a good way to meet new students that want to learn. I teach all levels and ages and (for those competing) cannot accompany you to competitions but can come in for a formal consultation or second opinion on a piece or repertoire. While my expertise is in piano, I teach music theory and voice as well.

Italian

As a native Spanish speaker and fluent French speaker, Italian was a language that I learned to fluency quickly. I am extremely familiar with the grammar structures having taken the language in college level classes and I am familiar with the literature as I frequently read from classical Italian literature such as Dante through modern Italian literature such as Ungaretti. Having spent four months studying abroad in Florence, Italy, I can safely say I have both a conversational and academic grasp of the language and any tutee of mine will be versed in both basic Italian and have basic knowledge of Italian dialects as well.

Organic Chemistry

I completed 2 semesters of organic chemistry at Bryn Mawr college in 2 months and have taken the MCAT exam and received a 13 in the biological sciences (this includes organic chemistry). I have worked in the sciences for 4+ years and am currently completing my masters of Public Health degree before attending medical school in 2014.

Piano

I began playing piano at the age of 4 and began competing when I was 7. The competitions began at the state level in Florida with the FFMC (Florida Federation of Music Clubs) and grew by the time I was 10 into national and international competitions ranging from the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the Chopin Competition in Poland. While my expertise is in piano, I teach music theory and voice as well.

Spanish

As a native of Miami, Florida, Spanish was my first language. Although I am a native speaker, I studied Spanish grammar and literature through high school and continued to TA and tutor through college. I have a firm grasp of the grammatical structures and am well versed in the literature. As a student of both the language and the culture, I am a tutor who imparts not only a healthy knowledge of Spanish grammar, but also of practical knowledge of Hispanic culture and history.

Writing

I am a native English speaker who has attended several programs in the past for gifted writers (Stanford Writing for Gifted Students and Oxford University's Lady Margaret Hall Courses for Gifted Writers) as well as published several articles in varied subjects; the history of art (Art Bulletin and Yale Press Review), the medical sciences (American Journal of Oncology), and creative writing publications with Bryn Mawr College, my alma mater. Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
