University of Minnesota (Statistics)
Colorado State University (Graduate Coursework)
I received my B.S. Degree in Statistics from the University of Minnesota. During my career at 3M I was able to consult, mentor, and teach numerous classes to co-workers in how to use statistics in product design and problem solving. I feel I have a knack for simplifying this subject that many find difficult to grasp. Outside of work, I tutored Junior and Senior High school students in basic math, algebra, and geometry. My goal is always to help you learn the subject to the level you wish to understand it. I received my B.S. Degree in Statistics from the University of Minnesota. Thomas is an excellent tutor. He is very patient, and very good at explaining things in a way that student's can understand. My daughter is so thankful for his help with statistics this semester, and we highly recommend him as a tutor.
Tom is a great tutor and he is very patient. Unfortunately not a right fit for our daughter's math requirements.
Thomas cares about the success of his students and puts his heart into what he is teaching. He has earned an A+ in teaching.
I met with Tom numerous times throughout the semester. He tutored me in an MBA quantitative thinking course. I ended up getting an A at 98%, and I was highly satisfied. He explained stats in a simple manner, and explained concrete problems in a timely manner. Don't hesitate to contact Tom.
Tom is a wonderful teacher. He is patient, and works hard to go over materials that are difficult. He also explains the material very simply so my daughter can understand.
I've worked with Tom all year. He assisted me with both intermediate algebra and college statistics. I'm an adult student who has always struggled with severe math anxiety. I needed statistics for my BSN program (I'm currently an associate degree RN), and I knew that I would need support in my math courses. Tom is an incredibly gifted, patient and encouraging tutor. He was flexible in meeting times, lengths and places. He always did whatever he could to help me be successful. I worked very hard and, with Tom's help, I got A's in both courses. I highly recommend him, and I'll miss him -- but not the subject matter!
What a gift! I was struggling with an online stats class that I needed to continue my masters in education. I was desperate and found Tom online. He was very willing to meet with only one day's notice. He was very patient, understanding, helpful and explained things in a way I could understand. Don't hesitate to get tutor help from Tom. It was a great experience and I am forever thankful!!! I passed!
Tom is friendly, consistently on time, and professional. He has helped our son improve his math grades and build his confidence. Tom is very patient and calm, which I think relieved some of the anxiety our son has in asking for help. Tom worked with our son for over a year, the second half of last year in algebra and now in geometry. He helps him understand his homework and prepare for tests and quizzes. We have seen his grades improve as a result. Tom is flexible and makes it really easy to get the help our son has needed. We highly recommend Tom to any student in need of some extra help. Thanks You!!
We engaged Tom to tutor our daughter in preparation for the math portion of her most recent ACT exam. Unfortunately we started the ACT prep process within about 3 weeks of the exam date, so time was short.
My daughter has never liked math, but Tom proved to be a very capable and engaging tutor; he is very patient and has a calm and low-key personality, which was great for my daughter. In the short time that was available, Tom was able to work with her to explain various types of ACT math problems in a way that she was able to grasp. She was thrilled and excited to finally understand the types of math problems she would encounter on the exam.
Tom's tutoring and encouragement resulted in a 2-point improvement in her ACT math score (went from 23 to 25), just in the short time that was available to prepare. Given a little more prep time, I could envision an even greater improvement.
We are very pleased with this result and would highly recommend Tom as a tutor!
We are thankful to have found an experienced tutor; not only with the subject matter, but with techniques for success throughout the process. Very Thankful!
Tom is a great tutor for my son - He's just just a nice guy! He's always very prompt and uses the full hour very efficiently. My son's math grades have improved significantly since we started with Tom.
Tom is the best. In addition to being thoroughly knowledgeable of his subject, he's patient and encouraging and a great tutor.
Tom is a great guy and very pleasant person. Works great with people and very good at explaining problems to people. he is on time and really talks to you about what you would need to help your child out to continue to learn. I would recommend him to anyone. Does a GREAT job!!!! I would continue hiring him till my daughter understands the work. He is a GREAT tutor.
I needed to pass statistics for a nursing program. I had not taken a math class in 15 years and didn't know how to use a graphing calculator. I was in tears with the class when he started coming. He was flexible, prompt, and always found a way to make me understand a concept. I passed the class with an 87.9!!! I was as excited to pass this class as I will be to graduate, and it is only because of Tom. I would recommend him to anyone in need of a math tutor.
Tom is so good, he has really helped restore my daughters confidence, and she is 100x less stressed out! Thanks Tom.
Tom knows the material and is very patient. He was able to determine the best way to teach my daughter, so that she was able to understand. My daughter was a bit apprehensive about having a tutor, but Tom put her at ease and she enjoyed working with him. He always followed up after each session and gave her examples and tips. Tom is also flexible and always responds quickly. We will definitely call Tom in the future, if needed. Thanks!
Tom is a skilled tutor who teaches with patience and with consideration towards the student. He is very flexible and works with you in a professional manner.
Tom has been flexible and easy to contact. He is willing to meet with my son as often as needed and is willing to spend his own time working on solutions to problems. My son has nothing but good things to say about working with Tom and says that his help has been invaluable. I am thankful that I found him and will continue to request him for my son's tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Through the years, I have helped students improve their ACT test scores. The approach I take is simple:
1. Pretest the student to find the areas that he/she needs help.
2. Focus on those areas that would add the most points to his/her score. As an example, if one is strong in algebra, but weak in plane geometry and trigonometry, I'd focus on the plane geometry only because the trigonometry is worth only between 5 - 10% of the math score, whereas the plane geometry is worth approximately 25%.
3. Stress answering simplest questions first, returning to harder questions later.
4. There are no penalties for guessing, so answer all questions by narrowing down your choices, then make your best guess.
5. Finally, if time permits, check your answers.
Algebra I is the beginning of a very exciting way of viewing mathematics. I was once told, algebra is just finding unique ways of multiplying and dividing by the number "1" and adding and subtracting "0". After learning the language of algebra, we'll use that language to solve linear equations and inequalities, solve 2 linear equations at the same time (system of linear equations), factor and solve various polynomials including quadratic equations, then finally work with exponential, radical, and rational expressions and functions. algebra 1 will be the prerequisite of more advanced math, like algebra 2, pre-calculus, and statistics.
