My name is Stephen, I'm 31 years old, and I have a BS in Mathematics (with a focus in business) from Augsburg College. In high school, I tutored ELL (English Language Learners) students in Math as well as other subjects; at Augsburg I tutor for the Math department. I tutor in the subjects of prealgebra, algebra, precalculus, statistics, calculus 1 and calculus 2.

My tutoring style is that with any problem I help them do the problem; I walk them through it, making sure they understand it, then I let them do a problem or two and let them ask any questions they have about it.

I am currently a Mathematics major at Augsburg college and I have been tutoring algebra for about 4 years at Augsburg. When teaching students I try to relate to what the student is interested in and then I can explain the material in a way that will help them understand it better.

I am currently a Mathematics major at Augsburg college and I have been tutoring algebra for about 4 years at Augsburg. When teaching students I try to relate to what the student is interested in and then I can explain the material in a way that will help them understand it better. With concepts that are more difficult to grasp I give them an easier example and then explain how what we are learning now is very similar to the easier problem. An example is how logarithms work when trying to solve an equation.

I have been tutoring calculus for about 2 and a half years at Augsburg. When teaching students I try to explain the concepts in a simpler manner such as derivatives simply being slopes/rates of change and antiderivatives being the area under the curve. By doing this it encourages the student to think in simpler terms and not like calculus is something new, because it's not.

I have been tutoring prealgebra (elementary math) for about 4 years at Augsburg. When teaching students I try to relate to what the student is interested in and then I can explain the material in a way that will help them understand it better.

I have been tutoring prealgebra for about 4 years at Augsburg. When teaching students I try to relate to what the student is interested in and then I can explain the material in a way that will help them understand it better. When faced with difficult concepts I try to relate it to something that we have learned earlier and possibly show them an alternative way to approach it because it is quite possible that the way they are being taught simply is not the way they learn it.

Computing probability of certain events happening. Computing the probability that certain events will happen given that certain events have already happened (conditional probability). Finding ways to find out how big the sample space is.

I have taken 3 statistics courses at Augsburg and I have tutored statistics for about a year and a half. When I tutor this subject I try to relate the statistics to a subject that is meaningful for them so it has real world meaning instead of just an abstract concept. For example for someone that doesn't understand z-scores I can talk to them about z-scores as they relate to video games or whatever the student is interested in.

Great tutor - very responsive! — Stephen is very knowledgeable and helpful with understanding Statistics better (a hard class!) He was also accommodating in setting up a meeting place. I would recommend him! ...
