I have been actively teaching music (privately as well as in the classroom) for the last sixteen years. Although my primary instruments in college were tuba, trombone, and voice, I also have been playing guitar for the last 27 years.
I have extensive experience working with students from ages 6 to 70, and am a firm believer that no matter the age of the student, they can develop and grow as a musician. My approach, while definitely working on developing what I refer to as strong general technique, is strongly oriented toward an understanding of music theory. It is my belief that, by understanding how music works, the developing musician can more easily translate what they learn with one instrument to others that they may study in the future.
As far as math and reading go, my interests lie within the desire to understand how things work, and how to communicate those ideas to others. I have an Associates Degree in English Education, and have long fostered a love of mathematics. It is my hope to be able to share those interests, and help to foster them in others.
