I am an experienced tutor and teacher and have nearly 20 years experience teaching ESL/EFL, English, writing and reading. I am patient and caring with my students, but also expect results and commitment to their learning. I also use different methods and exercises to keep the lessons varied and creative.

As an attorney, I spend a lot of time and pay a lot of attention to words and language. I bring this experience to my lessons. My experiences as an ESL and EFL teacher and a foreign-language student also help me connect and understand what my students are going through and enforce the need to explain well and in simple terms what we are studying.

I taught EFL in Italy for 10 years and now teach at the University of Minnesota, St. Mary's University and privately.

ACT Reading

I believe that the most important quality in a good reading teacher is a love for reading. I love reading.

I have also taught reading to students throughout my career of teaching English, EFL and ESL. I am able to paraphrase and summarize in words my students can understand and ask questions so that they know if they really understand the meaning of a passage. The work I do with students on reading helps prepare them for the ACT or other standardized tests.

American History

I have always loved history and transmit this interest to my students. History teaches lessons that we can apply to today and by realizing this, students are able to appreciate history and as a result, learn it more deeply.

Bar Exam

I am a licensed attorney in Minnesota and successfully passed the bar exam the first time I sat for it. I have tutored other students for bar exams in Minnesota as well as other states.

English

For nearly 20 years, I have taught English in some form or another. I taught EFL (English as a foreign language) in Rome for 10 years and now teach technical legal English and writing to foreign attorney at the University of Minnesota law school.

In addition, my work revolves around writing and language. As an attorney, I write and read a lot. As a translator, I work with works. And as a writing and research teacher, I also deal constantly with the English language.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL and EFL for nearly 20 years, both in the US and in Italy. I now teach ESL students at a law school. Many of my students have successfully passed exams such as the diplomatic exam or gone to study in the United States.

I am a caring, patient and creative teacher who enjoys working with ESL/EFL students to explain English and English grammar in language they can understand.

Grammar

With nearly 20 years experience teaching English and ESL/EFL, I am very knowledgeable about English grammar. I explain concepts and rules in easy-to-understand language so that my students understand and can apply what we study.

Italian

I lived in Italy (Rome) for 12 years and have studied and spoken Italian for more than 20. My major in college was Italian and Latin. I am knowledgeable about Italian grammar and vocabulary.

Law

I am a practicing lawyer, having graduated cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in 2005. Since graduation, I have practiced in business and employment law. I also teach legal writing and research at the University of Minnesota LLM program, in addition to private tutoring to law students for bar review and legal writing.

Literature

I am a good literature teacher above all because I like reading and literature. I enjoy many different genres and try to instill that love in my students. By finding applicable and relevant themes and lessons in the books we read, students are able to better understand and appreciate them.

Proofreading

My expertise in proofreading comes from my various work experiences as an English teacher, where I revise and proof my students' work, as well as my work as an attorney, where I am also responsible for checking the accuracy of written documents.

I am very knowledgeable of English grammar rules and vocabulary and good at editing. I am also good at explaining the rules to students so that they understand why something is said a certain way. This is key to true learning.

TOEFL

I began teaching and tutoring students for TOEFL preparation more than 15 years and have successfully tutored many students who have gone to study in the United States and Britain, as well as pass government language exams similar to the TOEFL.
