Composition (Music)

I taught music theory, composition, and ear training at Chapman University (Orange, CA) for three years as both an assistant professor and an instructor. Prior to that I was an instructor in composition and electronic music at the Eastman School of Music, while completing my doctorate.

Ear Training

I taught music theory, composition, and ear training at Chapman University (Orange, CA) for three years as both an assistant professor and an instructor. Prior to that I was an instructor in composition and electronic music at the Eastman School of Music, while completing my doctorate. Additionally, I taught ear training courses as a graduate student at the University of Iowa.

General Music

My passion has always been for music, and I started at an early age - I took some piano lessons as a child and formally studied percussion from grade school through college. After college, I specialized in composition in graduate school, earning both the master's and doctorate. I have composed music for solo instruments, various small and large ensembles, and for electronic media (including films).

Music History

My Ph.D. in composition (music) from the Eastman School of Music required two minor specialties - these were music theory and music history. I am familiar with music theory and music history from all historical periods and can offer tutoring in those areas in addition to composition (music).

Music Theory

I have a Ph.D. in Music (Eastman School of Music), a M.A. in Music (University of Iowa) and a B.A. in Music (University of Minnesota).

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
