I bring enthusiasm to my students and the subjects I tutor, and have experience working with multiple learning styles, learning disabilities, and physically handicapped children. I believe it's important to meet the student where "they think."
Along with successfully raising four children, two of which now work as engineers, I have a broad lifetime experience. I have been a law book salesman, computer programmer, waiter, entrepreneur, writer, public speaker, manager, corporate trainer, math and physics teacher in India, Legos teacher, nonprofit fundraiser, strawberry farmer, trombone player, backpacker, whitewater rafter, marathoner, amateur photographer, Eagle Scout, motorcyclist, and amateur radio operator.
I have undergraduate degrees in math and physics from Augsburg College and a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota.
I have worked 3 years as a substitute teacher in the Minneapolis school district with good experience in learning disabled and handicapped children. One of my own grown children struggled through school with aspergers and ADHD. However, with patience and persistence he is ready to graduate as a mechanical engineer with high grades. I have worked all my life in youth development and youth leadership development.
I am a graduate of William Mitchell College of Law with a Juris Doctor.
I have worked as a reserve teacher in Minneapolis for three years, including all grades and content areas. I have spent over 50% of my time in K-3 classrooms and worked with very young children as they learn the alphabet, how to speak properly and learn to write. Included in my phonics work has been experiences with the learning disabled and physically handicapped. I have also raised four now adult children.
As part of my undergraduate BA program, I took Public Speaking at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. It was a full semester course. The curriculum included picking a topic, research, writing, presentation practice, and the final presentation. I received a 4.0 grade for the entire course.
I also took a theater acting class in which we learned about theater as a craft, and all of us were assigned several roles, and act in those roles(speak publicly). The roles included research, memorization, practicing the role and the final acting in a scene (public speaking and presentation). I received a 4.0 grade for this semester class too.
Professionally, I have taken two executive courses on public speaking and giving presentations. While there were no academic grades per se, I used the learnings to improve my leadership performance and advance in my career. Through the years serving in for profit and not for profit leadership roles, I have made use of each of these intense training programs.
I have worked as a reserve teacher in Minneapolis for three years, including all grades and content areas. My work has included children who are learning disabled and physically handicapped. Earlier, I raised a high functioning aspergers son. His diagnosis was in 7th grade. Our efforts were successful in that he will soon graduate as a mechanical engineer from North Dakota University in Grand Forks.
