I have been tutoring or teaching in some capacity for the last 10 years in a wide range of settings. Some of this has included working as a private 1-on-1 teacher for a 9th grader in all subjects, teaching math and English in a large classroom of middle-school kids, tutoring high school and college students in essay writing, and teaching more recreational subjects like chess and film at summer camps.

I graduated from the University of Southern California with a major in film studies. I've also been ever enthusiastic about continuing my own education and have taken classes in math, computer programming, and philosophy since completing my bachelors. I am currently writing a book.

I think education is a life-long process and I am committed to helping others pursue this.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I've done a lot of work with students in the 5th - 6th grade range, including volunteering through USC's Joint Education Project, private tutoring, and teaching at summer schools in the area.

Philosophy

Though not a philosophy major, I took philosophy courses in college and am familiar with the both the content and kind of papers common in college courses. My specialty is political philosophy, but I am also well-acquainted with all of the other major subjects in philosophy. Since graduating, I have been pursuing research in philosophy.

Study Skills

Having study skills means being able to organize ones approach to learning and to assignments and tests. With the proper study skills, a student can manage their time and energy effectively to write papers, prepare for exams, and do daily homework to ensure academic success.

Writing

I graduated from the University of Southern California with a 3.7 GPA in Film, Critical Studies, a major which revolved around the ability to think critically, articulate arguments, and structure them into a paper. I have mastered the college essay form, written for numerous college news publications, and am currently in the early stages of researching and writing a book. Through Wyzant, I have also tutored numerous students in college writing.
