College of Saint Benedict (Business and Spanish)
Hi! My name is Sheri. I have taught and tutored English, ESL/ESOL and Spanish for several years both in the US and in Mexico. My students have come from here and many counties around the globe. Many from Asian, the Middle East, Latin American and European countries. They have ranged in age from young children to professional corporate executives and everything in between. Having learned and studied other languages and cultures myself, I'm uniquely aware of the challenges in this process and am able to provide insider tips to overcome these difficulties. I also designed an ESL/ESOL program of curriculum for a technical school in El Paso, Texas. Having BA's in Spanish and Management from the College of St. Benedict, I realize time is money and together we need to find the most effective teaching method for you. Also, the time you invest studying is directly reflected in your progress. Let's get started! Hi! My name is Sheri. Sheri is an exceptional tutor. Very easy to work with and did a wonderful job getting my college Spanish student caught up. She was also very encouraging to my student.
Sheri was a great help to me. When I first came to states, I couldn't say a word except maybe hello and thank you. Now I can write this review and all this I own to Sheri. Sheri taught me not only English, but how people in US think and speak. The path from where I was to where I am was not easy, however, we accomplished it and again thanks to Sheri. Thank you Sheri for all the hard work and believing in me. If Sheri succeeded with me, she can do it with everyone. Thank you.
Sheri, is very knowledgable in Spanish, and is very patient and passionate about the culture and language of Spanish! She helped me get a high B in my college Spanish course! If you need help with any of the aspects of Spanish, she is the one for you!
Sheri focused very much on my needs in my public speaking classes. She provided valuable suggestions. Those suggestions help me a lot in my daily life.
We have been through 8 sessions with Sheri and we couldn't be happier. She is very easy to work with and the lessons are a tremendous help to my daughter. I would recommend Sheri if your child needs help in Spanish.
My son wants to do better but isn't always the most attentive of students. Sheri is patient and thorough with him. He has already expressed an interest in having her be his school year tutor.
I appreciate the refresher in English language structure as it makes learning the Spanish structure easier. I should have paid more attention in my English classes!
We use Sheri to improve the English capabilities of our Field Service Technicians for our company. Sheri has done an excellent job taking students with very little understanding of the English language and making them comfortable and productive communicators. Our Field Service Technicians have to be able to communicate clearly to customers at job sites regularly. Sheri's programs and teachings have made noticeable improvement in the communication between our technicians and our customers. Her program and teachings have significantly reduced customer complaints in regards to our technicians ability to communicate. Sheri has shown a fabulous ability to tailor the programs to each student based on their current level of English proficiency. She has been a consummate professional in dealing with multiple personalities, varying priorities, and hectic schedules. She has been more than we could have hoped for when we started this relationship.
My son really liked Sheri and felt he made a lot of progress with his Spanish. Her rates are very reasonable given her level of experience.
My son was struggling his freshman year in Spanish. Shari worked patiently with him on a weekly basis. To avoid confusion she stayed within the framework of the course and even took the time to reach out to his instructor to get a better understanding of how he was teaching a particular topic. She made the sessions for my son fun. He never complained about attending. In the end my son went from a C+ to a A. The comment by his Spanish teacher on the final grade said it all: "Keep up the great work with your tutor".
We had a great experience with Sheri. My 13 year old girl liked studying with her and grades improved. Thanks Shari.
Great tutor - Very flexible in scheduling, and very patient and thorough with my son. She's always on time and very pleasant to work with. I highly recommend Sheri!
Sheri is very patient and always willing to work with my schedule! She has excellent ways of helping me learn and remember the information! I highly recommend her!
My son had Spanish lessons in the 8th grade with Sheri and we liked the teacher very much. He improved his vocabulary, verbs knowledge, learned new topics etc.
Sheri has helped my wife in learning English, since she has started working with her. Sheri will take her time and make sure that my wife understands the concepts. My wife likes working with Sheri very much. Sheri has a good personality and easy to work with. I would recommend Sheri as a teacher.
Sheri was always very flexible and patient working with our schedule. She was very easy to get along with our High School aged daughter. Our daughter liked her very much and gained a lot with Sheri's teaching. Thank you very much.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I started cooking and baking when I was in elementary school. Ever since, I've expanded my abilities with learning different dishes from many ethnic groups. This includes appetizers, main courses, breads, cakes, cookies, and beverages. With this, one can make an ordinary meal or special occasion extraordinary.
I have taught and tutored ESL / ESOL for several years in a classroom setting and privately both within and outside of the US. I have also designed an ESL / ESOL program for a technical school in El Paso, Texas. My students have come from many countries around the world and ranged in age from young children to corporate executives. I have BA's in Management and Spanish from the College of St. Benedict.
I have embroidered and done crocheting as a pastime since I was a child in elementary school. Some of the things include: embroidering dishtowels and pillowcases, tablecloths and napkins, and adornments to clothes. In crocheting, I work with yarn, thread and cloth. I've made several afghans, doilies and lace trims to pillowcases.
In tutoring English and ESL / ESOL and with and with any of the other languages I've studied or tutored, it isn't possible to learn them without having a solid understanding and ability of the phonetic sounds. This is an area I review with my students to be sure they have this knowlege and it is commonly a weak area. By seeing how a student pronounces these sounds, it helps me to tell if there are physical limitations in the sound formation or if it is simply something that needs more practice.
In my past work in marketing and management I needed to give many presentations and training sessions. With this, I learned about how to develop a professional presence, how to use body language to convey confidence, how to speak and project one's voice and different styles and strategies to use when communicating.
Worked as a Registered Representative for many years. Held Series 6, 63 and Life and Accidental Death licenses. Preparing for the Series 7. Worked helping families consolidate their debt and free up money to start their investments and financial planning.
I have sewn my own clothes, quilted and done repairs since I was a teenager. One of my work-study jobs in college was as a seamstress for the drama department. There we measured, fitted and made all of the costumes for the different theatrical productions. Sewing remains a favorite hobby for me.
I have tutored and taught Spanish to all levels of people, from beginners to advanced college levels for at least 20 years. Besides this, I have been interpreting Spanish for 25 + years and know professional levels of Spanish along with dialectal Latin-American Spanish.
