Dear potential students and parents,
Hello! My name is Kristen, and I look forward to meeting you and working with you one on one. I have known I was going to be a teacher since I was 12 years old, although it did take me a little while to figure out what kind of a teacher I wanted to be. As I went through the education program at the College of St. Scholastica, they got us out into the schools in different grades each year. As we progressed through the program we even did our own lessons to see what it was like. This helped people decide if teaching was really what they wanted to go into, as well as what grades they might want to work with. I found for myself that I worked best with the middle school ages, although I love helping any students whenever I can. So after much thinking and working in the education program, I decided that I would like to be a middle school social studies teacher. Many aspects of Social Studies have always fascinated me, and I would love to share that love of Social Studies with students. Many students do not find social studies interesting or relevant to their lives because it was in the past. My hope in teaching is to make it relevant to them so they will remember it and see that History happens around us all the time. Reading is a huge part of learning, but I am also a very hands on kind of teacher. I will strive to make learning, especially Social Studies, fascinating and engaging. Truthfully, this is my first time trying a tutoring position, but this past school year I worked as a substitute teacher in the Hibbing School District. So I did not just work in Social Studies, but I did have a lot of great experiences working in different classrooms and learning different techniques and methods. I love learning new things all the time, which is part of why I chose teaching as my profession. So together we can make this a great experience in learning! Thank you for considering me as your tutor!
