I am a classroom teacher with 21 years of experience. My degrees include a Bachelor's Degree with a major in history and minor in English Language and Literature and a Masters Degree in history. Both degrees are from Eastern Michigan University. I also hold a valid Michigan Professional Secondary Teacher Certificate certifying me to teach both history and English in grade 6-12.
Currently, I am an Middle School Language Arts teacher. However, I have also taught history, both at the the high school and middle school level. I use a variety of methods in my classroom to engage the students, including both projects and more traditional methods. One thing I emphasize is how to prepare for the test.
In my English classes, the students do a lot of writing. The topics range from simple and fun writing prompts to formal essays. I emphasize the writing process, organization, and making sure the writer's voice is clear in the paper.
I love teaching and have established a good rapport with my students. I teach the academics, but I am also concerned with how the students feel about themselves. I do not teach for a grade but rather for the knowledge of the material. It is important that both students and their parents have a realistic expectation of what can be achieved.
Study skills and organization methods are also a part of my teaching practice. My goal is to give the students the tools necessary to be successful in the classroom. I am a hardworking and dedicated individual who likes to make learning fun.
