During the 2012-1013 academic year, I was a volunteer with City Year Detroit, which is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to reducing the dropout rate in Detroit. I am tutored tenth grade students in geometry and English.
I quickly learned how important it is to create a fun and engaging atmosphere while tutoring my students. I feel that a positive learning environment for them provides them with the opportunity to actively engage in learning, as opposed to learning how to copy answers from a book. I enjoyed working with a wide variety of students, from both a personality and academic standpoint. One of my great successes had been my ability to get to know my students. This allowed me to tailor lessons for them that fit their academic level, as well as interests.
I graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Chemistry in April, 2012. In addition to my chemistry classes, I have taken upper level biology, physics, math, and economics classes.
I studied on my own to take the MCAT and was able to achieve a score of 35. I would gladly tutor and share my MCAT experience with any student.
I am currently a Master's student studying Basic Medical Science, and will be attending medical school next year.
