General Experience:
I enjoy tutoring and helping students feel good about themselves so they perform better at school.
Those who know me say that I relate extremely well to people and that they quickly feel at ease with me. I always strive to make subject matter relevant, interesting, and understandable.
The people skills that I acquired over the years have made me a pro at motivating those I interact with.
Parents who have sought my help usually say that I’m an excellent tutor and that they are glad they found me. I have a deep understanding of math and science, including their applications, and of what it takes to be successful. Having lived and worked in the U.S., Belgium and France, I have learned to understand and appreciate different cultures. I am also fluent in English, Dutch, and French.
Approach to Tutoring:
Every tutoring opportunity starts with getting students to feel comfortable with me, so they open up and allow me to assess and understand their needs. This assessment is helpful as it allows me to effectively adapt my tutoring style and method. As a tutor, I try to quickly become a trusted advisor of students and parents alike. I accomplish this by being friendly, enthusiastic and honest. Being tutored is a private matter. Maintaining and improving the student’s self-esteem are a must. Students are often very apprehensive about “being tutored” for a variety of reasons. I therefore make sure that the students feel comfortable with the tutoring venue. In most cases I establish a three-way communication early on by involving the parent(s), by providing regular and meaningful progress reports, and by asking for feedback.
