My name is Stephanie and I would love to help you learn something new! I have graduated from Eastern Michigan University for Vocal Music Education and Oakland Community College for American Sign Language Interpreting. I enjoy both with a passion.
I have been involved in music my whole life with band and choir. I played percussion for twelve years and am currently taking voice lessons. I have completed all the requirements and am now a certified teacher.
I have been signing since 2010. I am heavily involved in the deaf community and can help your student learn real ASL, not just sign in English.
I look forward to hearing from you!
I have been ear training since I was in high school. My choir director taught us how to use our ears effectively and I learned more about it once I got to college in Music Theory. I can show you my old books and we can practice listening to the different pitches, chords, and rhythms that we hear.
I am currently attending Eastern Michigan University for music education. This degree covers K-12 education. I have taken the methods class from elementary education and this has covered general music. I have knowledge about teaching basic music concepts to all ages.
I have taken Music Theory 1-4 at Eastern Michigan. It is a useful skill to have when learning music, because it makes everything easier to understand.
I have been taking piano lessons since I was 5 years old. I have had many piano teachers and know there are many different ways to teach piano. I would like to learn the best method for you and embrace that.
Sight singing is an essential skill for any musician to have. I have been practicing sight singing since high school and it has gotten me far in my music career. The easiest way to learn is using solefedge- major, minor, and chromatic with moveable do. This is the easiest way to understand intervals, scales, and different key signatures.
I am currently enrolled at two schools - Eastern Michigan and Oakland Community College. At OCC, I am studying sign language interpreting. I have already taken ASL 1-4 and I am now working in the interpreting classes. I am heavily involved in the deaf community and that gives me great experience with the use of sign language as a language instead of just sign in English word order. This has helped me become a better tutor.
I am currently a voice student at Eastern Michigan University. I have been taking voice lessons since 2007 and have greatly enjoyed it. I have had five different teachers and each one has taught me something new. I am excited to have students of my own and pass on the information and tools I have learned throughout the years.
