I am a fresh and ambitious educator who wants to make a positive difference in the lives of each student I have the opportunity to work with. I am familiar with setting high yet attainable standards for students as well as myself. I strive to be an instrument of inspiration to students and colleagues alike. Teaching is my passion and I feel that my experience teaching students at various levels from very diverse backgrounds will be valuable when meeting the needs of all learners. My heart is working with children from urban districts. “Schools will enroll proportionally more students who live in poverty, who come from diverse countries and ethnic groups, who represent different language and cultural backgrounds, and who enter with unequal social capital” (Lieberman & Miller 2004). I am committed to student achievement and motivated to excel. I have committed myself to life-long learning and I welcome opportunities to extend and further my education. I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I have completed the requirements in order to obtain a Michigan Provisional Certification and earned a 4.0 during my student teaching.
For the past three years, I have worked as the 7th/ 8th grade E.L.A. intervention specialist at Oak Park Preparatory Academy. I collaboratively work with the language arts teachers in identifying students that are struggling, adapting curriculum to better meet their needs and provide whole group, small group or one-on-one instruction. I ensured a caring, safe, and comfortable learning environment. I experienced adapting and modifying lessons to meet the needs of those students who were ESL had learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, and/or were below level. My goal is to provide these students with an opportunity to succeed! My Parents often received phone calls and letters home to inform them of their child’s progress. Parent involvement was challenging but very important to me. I became actively involved with our P.B.I.S (positive behavior intervention strategies) team and volunteered to coach our dance team. I have developed and maintained strong relationships and partnerships with my students, parents, and co-workers to ensure student success.

During the summer I teach a writer’s workshop to incoming 7th graders and motivate them to think outside of the box. I have had the opportunity of working with and learning from passionate, experienced teachers that strive to meet and address the needs of each student on an individual basis. My goal is to challenge my students and demonstrate how to apply the tools they are learning in the classroom to ensure their development and growth. I believe that all children can learn and succeed if they are given the correct tools and taught at their zone of proximal development (ZPD). My position at O.P.P.A. has inspired me to pursue my master’s degree as a reading specialist. Throughout my time at O.P.P.A
I hope to continue on my path of life long learning in order to stay fresh and current. I believe that every child can succeed if given the proper tools. I want students to think outside of the box! I hope to obtain my masters degree, obtain a full time teaching position and help students reach their potential. The sky is the limit! Thank you for considering me in your search for excellence!
