I have been teaching for approximately 6 years, working in a variety of different institutions including giving one on one private tuition, working in public and private schools, as well as writing and editing in freelance capacities. I have primarily taught English grammar, usage, and vocabulary, but can teach/tutor history, geography, and civics/government. In addition, I have been a student of French and Spanish for many years, and lived in Germany for some time, so I have a very good knowledge of commonly taught languages.
I studied at Grand Valley State University with a major in Political Science and minors in History, Middle East Studies, and Non-profit Studies. After my studies I moved abroad, living in 6 different countries on 4 continents, picking up knowledge, languages, friends, and great stories. I have been active in social justice and human rights initiatives for many years, educating the public about problems and issues we often see on the news, but don't readily understand, with a focus on issues that affect women.
My biggest passion is music, but my other interests are wide and varied and include photography, travel, animals, education, languages, history and a whole host of others.
I spend my free time reading (current events and pop culture are things I'm always up to the minute on), playing with my dog Levi, listening to music, writing, and cooking.
I truly love teaching and see it as my true purpose in life. I believe the goal in teaching is to lead a student and to give them the tools to find the answer on their own. I find that when the student is invested in their own learning, they get so much more out of it, and learning becomes a reward in itself.
I very much look forward to hearing from you and working with you and your child!
