I have written EMT questions for the National Registry of EMTs (2/15-17/2002). I authored a chapter of the 2010 UMBC Critical Care Transport text for Jones & Bartlett, as well as working on other EMS projects for AAOS/Jones & Bartlett and Brady/Prentice Hall. As the former chair of the Education Committee of Michigan's EMS Coordination Committee, I helped the State navigate through the changes of the NHTSA National Scope of Practice, Education Standards and current Instructional Guidelines.

I am a Michigan licensed Paramedic (since '92) - EMS Instructor (since'98); a UMBC certified CCTP; and NREMT certified Paramedic with over 17 years of professional education experience in EMS. I am Training Center Faculty for American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care training courses in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). I have instructed ECG Technician, 12-lead ECG, PEPP, and BTLS/ITLS/PHTLS trauma courses.

My methods vary to achieve the goal of each individual candidate's needs. They include one-on-one instruction, guided self-study, and directed exercises.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

Anatomy at ANY level is the study of organ structure. Students often have a hard time with this subject as they try to force rote memorization of the (often Latin) terminology.

I incorporate little "tricks" to help students remember the structure names - i.e. the thinner/smaller bone that lies in the back of the lower leg is a "Little Lie"... or "FIB" (fibula).

I am a Michigan Licensed EMS-Instructor with a good deal of success preparing students for Board Exams.

ASVAB

I have several years' experience in test preparation for EMS candidates taking the NREMT Certification Exam and nurses taking the NCLEX exam. These are not dissimilar to the ASVAB test for the Military. I have been involved in test writing for the NREMT and construct exams regularly for an EMS academy. Although it has been several years, I have taken the ASVAB. I feel confident I can assist candidates improve their test-taking abilities with the ASVAB.

Career Development

I provide instruction in the increasing levels of EMS, provide counseling related to employment environments, and assist with resume and interview preparation helping students progress through various levels of their career.

NCLEX

Licensed Instructor/Critical Care Paramedic with extensive classroom experience teaching A&P, Pharmacology, ECG/12-lead, ACLS/PALS, Emergency & Critical Care assessment & management

Nursing

I am a licensed Instructor/Critical Care Paramedic with extensive classroom experience teaching A&P, Pharmacology, ECG/12-lead, ACLS/PALS, Emergency & Critical Care assessment & management.

Pharmacology

I provide instruction in pharmacology related to the medical industries of nursing and emergency medical technology. Including drug development, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, drug classification, administration techniques, and emergency medication use.

Physiology

Physiology at ANY level is the study of body function. Students often have a hard time with this subject as they try to force rote memorization of the processes.

I incorporate little "tricks" to help students remember these processes- making a connection between the "what" and organ does and the "why" its doing it.

I am a Michigan Licensed EMS-Instructor with a good deal of success preparing students for Board Exams.

Public Speaking

I am an adult educator (EMS Instructor) with over 18 years experience in classroom and large scale presentations. I can help students discover and improve their public speaking delivery and presentation styles. My initial college education was in Broadcasting and Cinematic Arts at Central Michigan University. Having been a speaker for Michigan EMS EXPO and UPEMS Conferences, as well as presenting in live interactive-video formats, I feel I am qualified to help others overcome hurdles to presenting in public.
