In 2006 I began my teaching career by accepting a position as a Clinical Instructor for nursing students. I thought I would miss hands on patient care, but I soon realized I had not really left it. With every clinical rotation, I found myself going through the same processes, asking the same questions, assessing the same areas, as I did working as a staff RN. Whether it was evaluating possible causes of mental status changes, skin integrity impairments, medication effects, Lab test results, or regular physical assessment data, I felt, many times, as though the patients/residents were my own. My students appreciated my insight and verbalized the benefit of my tutelage.
I have over 6 years of Fundamentals and Med/Surg nursing tutoring experience. While I have never directly tutored subjects such as Pharmacology and math, I have provided assistance to such students in clinical postward conferences.
I have found that students greatly benefit from reading the assignments and developing questions before arriving for tutoring. This enables the student receive targeted assistance and maximizes efficiency of the use of the time period. It is beneficial to me to review the material also via reading the assigned chapter etc. via e-book, current textbook or textbook by another author than the one currently used by the student. I answer student questions and clarify any concepts that are unclear.
I would very much appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my education and experience can benefit you.
