I have spent my life preparing to be a teacher. It has been my plan since high school. I graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education. I have since been a substitute teacher, nanny, and kindergarten teacher. After two years of teaching kindergarten I decided to stay home and take care of my kids. As much as I love this exciting new phase in my life, I miss teaching. Tutoring is the perfect solution for me to get the best of both worlds. I get to stay home and raise my boys, and I still get to teach. So although I no longer have my own classroom, I look forward to the opportunity to educate others. Tutoring helps me to create a better balance while my children are still young.

I can tutor all elementary subjects, however, my greatest strengths are in English, reading, writing, and all areas that surround them (vocabulary, grammar, and so on). I majored in English in college and have always had a special interest in creative writing.

I enjoy finding creative methods for engaging my students. I like to have fun and give real life examples, and I have the patience to allow time for a bit of trial and error. I would rather show my students how to find the answer themselves than give it to them. And while that may take a bit more time, I believe that this method makes us all better learners.

I have been a substitute teacher, a kindergarten teacher, and an English tutor so far. I love helping others learn, and look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education. I taught kindergarten for two years. Before that I substitute taught in all grade levels k-8.

English

English has been my greatest strength since I was young. I majored in language arts in college and have since tutored a few people. I enjoy language arts and therefore help others to enjoy it when I am teaching it. I am not just guessing on this, I have been told so by my students!

Phonics

In my two years teaching kindergarten, I taught phonics everyday. We were trained in the phonics program through the school. The program was called "Phonics Soup".

Softball

I have played softball since I was eleven years old. I was the captain of my high school team and have since played as a hobby. I also spent one year coaching a team of 13-16 year old girls.
