I have an extreme love of learning, and I consider myself a lifetime student. I have always had the ability to teach others in various ways to help them understand concepts and vocabulary, even from a very young age. I love seeing that "AHA!" look in a person's eyes when they finally "get it"!
I minored in English as an undergraduate, with a concentration on Victorian English literature. I have a vast array of knowledge of authors, ranging from Shakespeare to Oscar Wilde. In my spare time, I tend to write poetry, and I like to delve into the realms of iambic pentameter and free verse. The occasional limerick is also fun! I had perfect scores in the ACT's reading and writing portions, and I am more than happy to help others prepare for the test.
Finally, as a Master's student, I studied computer information technologies. I am well versed in all Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Access. I currently work with databases, and I have helped write many macros to aid in office efficiency. I can write XHTML code, as well as utilize programs like SharePoint, to create websites. I am currently studying SQL and C++ for future advancement in my career.
As a tutor, I try to understand how the student enjoys learning. Each person is unique in how they learn that a cookie cutter approach is inefficient. I like to use games, music, visuals, creative arts, etc. in my lessons in order for someone to learn in a variety of ways. I am not a lecture person by any means. I like the hands-on, laugh and have fun while learning approach.
