From a young age, I have loved France, the French language
, and French culture. I recently graduated with a double major in French and English
from Oakland University (OU). I tutored French at OU, spent 9 months studying abroad in Orléans, France, and most recently was an English Language Assistant in Bourges, France, where I spent 7 months teaching English to French high school students.
What makes my tutoring different from others?
Just because somebody speaks a language doesn't mean they know how to teach or explain it. I have a strong understanding of both French and English grammar
. Because of this, I can help students see the connection between their native language and their acquired language. It's not just words on paper - there are rules and exceptions to every language, and knowing when, how, and why they work is the key to becoming fluent. Furthermore, I am a strong believer in not simply handing out answers. I work with the student to help him or her realize the answer based on the knowledge he or she already has, or has gained throughout our tutoring sessions. Language is like math
- there are formulas and variables. And, like math, learning a language isn't just memorization - it's application.
Grammar is my guilty pleasure. My bread and butter. My cup of tea. And my goal is to impart this love of language on to you!
I have a Bachelor of Arts in French and English from Oakland University, and a Diplôme Approfondi de Français from the Université d’Orléans in Orléans, France. I have found that studying French has improved my knowledge of English, and vice versa. I am happy to tutor both French and English!
