After 16 years of teaching mathematics at Western International High School, certified by the State of Michigan as a "highly qualified teacher", I decided to retire early in order to pursue a variety of interests. However, I have some free time to dedicate to one of my passions: helping students of any age to achieve their targeted level of success.
I possess an extensive teaching experience that allows me to detect those obstacles that keep students from understanding and working with math concepts. I have developed a large array of connections between math concepts and everyday experiences. My most precious reward is the enthusiastic AHA! of a student who visualizes a mathematical idea that was deemed "difficult" before.
My experience as a math tutor working with adults is also an asset worth mentioning. Nowadays, many people want to advance their education by enrolling in college. Then, they find the deficiencies of traditional high school math instruction. I envision it as a meaningful and worthwhile endeavor to help ambitious individuals to advance their careers, or to prepare for new ones.
My competence to teach Spanish was developed as a Spanish corporate instructor and translator for clients such as Guardian Industries, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation. Furthermore, I acquired valuable business experience as a commercial representative for Guardian Industries Corporation in South America.
I am an avid reader and traveler. My language expertise, my awareness of current issues and my communication skills are above average.
I prefer to work at a local public library. For instance, Southfield Public Library is an excellent facility: it offers several private study rooms that are equipped with whiteboards. Public libraries are, in my opinion, the best place for studying. However, I will happily accommodate to my student's preferences.
My goal is to help my students reach excellence. My approach is to do it in a comfortable environment. Learning should be fun!
