Greetings,

According to the standards set forth in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, the State of Michigan has declared that I am highly qualified to teach all subjects in grades K-5 (K-8 Self Contained), as well as middle school mathematics ("EX" endorsement).

Prior to attending Eastern Michigan University where I received a B.S. in education (4/10), I enjoyed a lengthy and successful career as a realtor in Wayne, Oakland and Livingston counties. I've been an active guest teacher in many communities while seeking a full-time position in a public school setting.

I firmly believe that all students can succeed in all subjects provided they have adequate support. It would be my pleasure to work with you and your child to increase their achievement in prealgebra, algebra I/II, geometry, organization/study skills and test preparation. Please note that I possess considerable experience teaching/tutoring students in each of these areas.

After our initial meeting, I will formulate a detailed plan tailored to the unique needs of your child in order to ensure their success. The benefits of this process include, yet are not limited to reduced anxiety, greater confidence, higher self-esteem and increased achievement.

Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

References and transcripts are available upon request.

Best regards,

Mark F.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have been teaching and tutoring students in grades 3-12 and beyond for more than nine years. I am committed to the success of all of my students. Everyone learns differently, which is why I will formulate a detailed agenda designed to meet the specific needs of each new client thereby maximizing the productivity of every lesson. The end result of this process is increased student achievement!

Criminal Justice

I possess a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University; I also worked in the private security sector as a supervisor for nearly 8 years.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received my post-baccalaureate teaching certification in April of 2010! I'm highly qualified to teach all content areas in grades K-5 (k-8 in self-contained classrooms) as well as 6th-8th grade mathematics!

Logic

As part of teaching a semester of 10th grade geometry at Howell High School (2011-2012), a unit on logic was incorporated. Covered in the unit were the following concepts of conditional ("if-then") statements: Converse, Inverse, Negation and Contrapositives.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using various version of Microsoft Windows for more than 10 years and am familiar with nearly every application the software has to offer.

Trumpet

I have played this instrument for nearly 30 yrs.! The best part being that I'm as interested in it today as I was the day I picked it up! It's a wonderful instrument which anyone can learn to play given they're willing to donate the time and effort required to be successful.
