I have been tutoring since I was in high school in the 1960s. I tutored throughout college. In my 35 years of public and private school teaching, I worked individually with my students before, during and after school. It was always my favorite part of teaching. I have recently retired and would like to help you understand math and/or science so that you can learn to love it as much as I do.
With my decades of experience, I am very good at making students feel comfortable with me. Because of this, I can easily find out what they do and don't understand. From this knowledge, I can build on their strengths so that they come to completely understand that which was difficult before.
I truly enjoy working with people of all ages and helping them to become confident in their ability to understand math and science. I have been tutoring since I was in high school in the 1960s. The rate listed is for tutoring at the Salem-South Lyon library. I am willing to travel up to 20 minutes for an increase of $10 per hour. I charge the same hourly rate for one student or many.
Lynne is the most respectful, compassionate and understanding teacher I have met. She understands the student as well as the material.
We are so fortunate to have found Lynne. She is very patient and very knowledgeable. Very flexible and has been a great fit.
While my daughter has only had one lesson so far with Lynne, my initial vibes are quite positive.
The review that she had based on her time with my daughter seems to be spot-on with some very good insights regarding areas that may require specific focus to yield results.
I will provide a more in-depth review as things progress, but thus far, I have to say that I'm pleased that we have begun to work with Lynne. I have high hopes going forward.
3-week update: My daughter got her results back from first exam since starting to work with Lynne. It was a "B", which was a significant improvement. My daughter also reports that she is feeling more confident going into exams and that her time with Lynne is providing her real value.
Just got mid-term exam grade posted. Also a "B". My daughter continues to report that she is more confident going into her exams. Major Thumbs Up!
Obviously liking how things are going so far.
Will update further as time goes on.
Lynne was able to teach and motivate my son. His confidence has increased in the subject from one session.
Lynne was very nice and knowledgeable. My son seemed to work well with her. Lynne was very accommodating when he went to the wrong library. Thank you. We will most defiantly be using her again.
Lynne is very patient and knowledgeable in the subject matter and is able to help my daughter understand her homework.
Lynne tutored my daughter for the ACT and she was very patient and thorough. Lynne zeroed in on the areas she struggled with, working through them repeatedly, while also making her a list of things to memorize as they went. My daughter feels she is much better prepared for testing this time after her sessions with Lynne.
My daughter is receiving A's. What is high priority for us is that most of the time, I am working at the time of the lesson. My daughter needs to handle math on her own with the tutor. The communication with Lynn is working out with them in math.
What can I say. My 16 year old son loves her. She has been great and is very good at scheduling around us. I would recommend her to anyone who is in need of a tutor.
Lynn has been helping by daughter with geometry for the last few weeks and has proven to be a great assest for my daughter. She explains the material well and at my daughter's pace. She always arrives on time with a positive attitude and ready to work at math. My daughter loves working with her! Great tutor, great person!
Lynne is an incredible educator who really listened to my daughter. She has great energy, has raised children of her own, and has wonderful credentials. My wife and I really appreciate her help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My mother was a professional seamstress. Therefore, I grew up wearing handmade clothing and learned to design and make my own. I have made wedding dresses, suits, dresses, pants, shirts, underpants, bathing suits, children's clothing, furniture covers, drapes, curtains, and many other household items, including reupholstering furniture.
I have not desired to make a living by sewing, but my house and my children's houses are filled with homemade items.
I have been an American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Instructor for several decades. I have taught swimming and lifeguarding for recreation departments, high school and private lessons.
For the swimming lessons, I have worked with people of all ages, from 6 months to 84 years old. I have taught not only the basics of swimming, but also coached teams and triathletes who wanted to strengthen the swim portion of their races.
I love the water, am very comfortable in the water, and love to share my skills with others. The joy on a person's face when they first float on their back is indescribable.
I have found that for younger children, making them feel at ease in the water comes first. Then the skills can be worked on. Generally, spending a short time on several different skills in a session plants the seeds of those skills in a student's mind. By the next session, I find that they have improved markedly, even if they haven't been in the water in between sessions. Those seeds grow, even without water!
For older students, it is often necessary to overcome fear that they may not even be conscious of. I have some simple breathing exercises that usually tackle those fears. Runners also have difficulty with the breathing because they need to do it "backwards" in the water; that is, in the mouth and out the nose (and mouth).
