My approach is to help the student discover the answers themselves. This requires patience, which comes easily for me. I give tips and tricks that can help the student later. I am a natural problem solver. I give praise freely and help the student be proud of themselves. I NEVER criticize or belittle a student. I am an encourager and enjoy helping others. My three daughters often came to me for help with homework.
Astronomy, weather, and science are now my hobbies. I always got As in science and was a lab assistant in high school.
I have trained business professionals, computer programmers, and teenagers in sailing small boats. I give presentations at a nature center, lead tours at a historical museum, and have lead nature hikes for Boy Scouts. I served in the U.S. Air Force until 1980, attended Wayne State University and Northern Michigan University.
The key to successful tutoring is to develop trust and rapport and make learning enjoyable.
