I am a retired teacher with over 32 years of experience in K-12 and teaching at SVSU reading skills in the English Language Program. My experiences include over 20 years working with second language learners in a self-contained, pull-out program, and in a one on one/intensive language program. I have also taught Spanish as a second language in middle and high school. My extensive training as a coach in the Reading First Program through the No Child Left Behind Act has allowed me to do professional development in a distinct-wide teacher training on the essential skills in teaching reading. I have also supported teachers on effective reading strategies in whole and small group instruction. Currently, I am tutoring students on test taking strategies for college entrance exams.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified to teach all subjects K-6. I have coached teachers for 8 years on the best teaching practices in reading and writing through the Reading First Program under the No Child Left Behind Act. I have also worked as a compensatory education teacher in language arts.

ESL/ESOL

I have a certified teaching endorsement in Bilingual/ESL education - Spanish and English.

I am currently teach ESL classes to Chinese and Saudi Arabia students at Saginaw Valley State University. My classes include teaching the basic English skills to preparing my students how to academically read in a college level class and how to listen and take notes during a lecture. I believe ESL students need to be taught the six major subject areas which include: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar in order for them to be successful in school and in the English-speaking world. My teaching style is to bring real life situations into the classroom or tutoring session to increase the retention of English.
