Hello!
I am Cheri, a writer, poetry and speech teacher and writing instructor. I currently teach at two community colleges and I hold a Masters of Fine Arts in Writing. I am skilled at teaching writing, public speaking, poetry and reading. I have worked with students as young as four and as old as 85!
I've been published in several national literary journals and have had a book of my poetry published by Pudding House Press. I am a regular on the local reading circuit and have read my work in most Detroit area poetry venues.
I was Poet in Residence for six months at a Montessori School, taught reading/writing workshops for three years with the Inside Out Literary Arts Project in Detroit Public Schools (high school), teach workshops with The Arts in The Spirit Program at Oakwood Hospitals and have also taught with the following institutions: University of Detroit Mercy College, Springfed Arts Metro Detroit Writers, Boysville, Young Chicago Authors (Girlspeak), The Neighborhood Writing Alliance, Blushing Sky Writers.
I believe that learning happens best in a relaxed and fun environment! I think that the toughest subjects, when handled with a bit of creativity and humor, can not only be understood but mastered and enjoyed! Learning should be compelling, interesting and fun! My students enjoy my lessons and therefore, learn much more!
