Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

My Bachelor's degree is in History, and my Master's degree is in Theology, so I have done a great deal of writing throughout my time in school, as well as in the jobs I've had since then. I currently teach at both Cazenovia College and MVCC. I did very well on the SATs when I was in high school.

Bible Studies

I minored in Religion in college, and have a Master's degree in Divinity. I took two semesters of both Old Testament and New Testament while in graduate school, in addition to my college courses.

English

My undergraduate degree is in history, and my master's degree is in theology, so I have done a great deal of reading and writing throughout my time in school. I have also done a lot of writing as part of my jobs over the years. I currently teach at MVCC and Cazenovia College, and also tutor at MVCC.

Public Speaking

In seminary, I learned a great deal about public speaking, through my Preaching class and through observing the many professors and preachers at our school. In my professional work, I have almost always done a good deal of public speaking, including speaking before churches and other kinds of groups. I now teach at a community college, where I speak in front of my students about nine hours per week.

Religion

I minored in Religion in college. I have a Master's degree in Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

SAT Reading

I got a 710 on the Reading section of the SAT when I was a junior at Ithaca High School fifteen years ago. Since then, I have gotten a bachelor's degree in History from Duke University and a Master's degree in Theology from Emory University. I currently teach at MVCC.

Social Studies

I majored in History in college. I currently teach Sociology at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Study Skills

I have a bachelor's degree in History, and a Master's degree in Theology. While my higher educational background has included a lot of writing, I also have experience in test-taking and study skills. I mostly got A's in high school, B's in college, and A's in graduate school. I currently teach Sociology at MVCC, and I am a tutor with the Learning Center on campus - In both aspects of my job, I work with students on their study skills.

Writing

I have a Bachelor's degree in History, and a Master's degree in Theology. Both degrees, especially my Master's, included a great deal of writing, and I have used my writing skills in my professional career as well. I also occasionally write for the weekly newspaper in Utica, on a volunteer basis.
