I have been an English teacher since October, 1992. In my 19 years of teaching, I have worked with all grade levels and academic levels of ability, from beginning second- and foreign-language learners, through native speaking college composition and college test preparation classes. My students have ranged in age from preschool through non-traditional students over 65, and I have worked with at-risk students, alternative students, honors students, and advanced placement students. Currently, I am teaching classes online through video-conferencing with a school in South Korea.
I have been teaching test preparation at all levels, and have been specifically teaching TOEFL preparation for about 15 years, through the various changes in the test structure. Currently, my students see an average increase from an 85 to about 100 on the TOEFL, and students with an initial score of 105 usually see a 5-8 point increase (as the initial score increases, the amount of gain per unit time invested decreases -- I can try to help a student achieve a perfect score on the TOEFL, but the time and effort invested to go from 110 to 120 is significantly greater than the time needed to go from 85 to 100).
I am available for face-to-face tutoring, or online video-conference sessions -- the rates for online classes are somewhat lower, as travel expenses and travel time are not a factor.
