I am a native Spanish speaker, fully bilingual in Spanish and English. I am certified to teach Spanish and French, as well as K-8th grade.

I grew up in Spain, where I attended a British school, and received an excellent education. My mother is Spanish and my father was American. I came to Michigan to go to college. I have been a Spanish teacher since 2000. I am also fluent in French and have a strong understanding of Italian. I have tutored privately, from children to teenagers to adults, for many years. I have helped many high school students significantly raise their grades in Spanish and French. I can also tutor in English and ESL, as well as preparing for SAT's and ACT's.

I have various methods of tutoring depending on the needs of my students. I believe in speaking the language, in using flashcards, and working with worksheets. I teach the necessary grammar lessons, following the student textbook, and finding supplemental material from other textbooks.

I have a wonderful rapport with students, and teaching a foreign language is my passion, which I convey to my students, and get them excited about the language.

Vocabulary

I have an extensive knowledge of vocabulary, thanks to being an avid reader, and having had a classical British education. This knowledge can help me teach students who need to learn or review vocabulary for high school or college tests.

Grammar

My grasp of the English grammar is excellent. When I was growing up, I went to a British school in Europe. This school was run by a very proper British couple, both of them graduates from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, and they taught us the Queen's English from an early age. Reading

I have always been an avid reader, ever since I was a young girl. I always excelled at reading comprehensions, finding it easy to not only enjoy what I read, but also was able to make sense of what I read. As a teacher, I help my students understand what they are reading, so that they can correctly answer questions about their comprehension of anything they have to read.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker. I have taught Spanish to both children and adults for many years. I currently teach Spanish at a middle school and I tutor in both Spanish and French to many high school students.

Writing

I have always loved to write, beginning when I was very young. I wrote in diaries from age 6 until college. Even today I keep notes on things that I do and feelings I have. I write poems and short stories, and have had these posted on various literary websites. I attended a British school from kindergarten until high school where I received a wonderful classical education. My grasp of English grammar, spelling, and my ability to write is very advanced. I am an avid reader and writer, and love to impart my knowledge of English. Literature

I have many loves as an educator. If writing is one of them, reading literature is just as important to me. Proofreading

I have helped many college students edit and write papers, and I have helped them get very good grades on these papers. I can help with most college subjects, unless it is mathematical or very technical or using complex medical or legal terms. I excel at term papers and literary papers.

SAT Reading

I have helped several of my foreign language students with preparing for the SAT. My own British schooling helped me with grammar exams and vocabulary proficiency.

SAT Writing

Thanks to my British education, I have an excellent grasp of the English grammar. This helps me tutor students taking tests like the SAT and/or the ACT. I have a background in teaching vocabulary and in how to write properly.

TOEFL

When I taught ESL for a language center, I had several students who were studying for the TOEFL. These students were of several nationalities. I would feel confident helping students study for and pass the TOEFL.

Spelling

My spelling skills have always been excellent ever since I was in high school. I always won most of the spelling contests at school, and where I work now, many of the teachers and students will ask or email me questions on how to correctly spell words. If you have trouble with spelling, I would love to help you overcome your problems. I have several ways to help my students learn how to spell better.

ACT English

I have a very strong grasp of grammar and I know how use this to teach students how to prepare for the English portion of the ACT. I feel that my British education prepared me for teaching the finer points of grammar to students of all nationalities. Knowing several foreign languages has also helped me understand grammar and how things should be written.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a fully certified teacher in the state of Michigan. I am certified to teach any subject K-8. I currently teach Spanish in the Berkley school district and last year I taught 4th grade. I can show proof of my certification or you can check with the state of Michigan.

Study Skills

I have helped many students with study skills. I have tips on how to prepare better for quizzes and tests, how to organize folders and three ring binders in order to be more organized. I help many of my current students become more responsible with homework.

ESL/ESOL

I taught ESL at a public school for a year. I also taught ESL to Japanese businessmen in the automotive industry for several years. I went to a British school, and my grammar and spelling are perfect.

Salsa Dancing

I have been an avid salsa dancer since my college years in the 80s. I have taken many classes and I go to all the local salsa clubs. I have taught friends how to salsa dance. Besides teaching languages, salsa dancing is my passion. I would consider myself an advanced salsa dancer.

Macintosh

I am experienced in using all Apple products. I have an iPhone and an IPad that I use every day, for both personal use and for tutoring purposes. I know how to use and look for apps, how to find and save favorite websites. I do not have a Macintosh at the moment, but I use Macs with some of the students that I tutor.
