As an experienced tutor, I understand the challenges that students face when learning a new subject.

Knowing a subject is one thing; being able to help someone learn a subject is something entirely different.

My unique background combines teaching, engineering, counseling and business. This provides me with a broad foundation from which to draw in helping students learn.

Teaching: I have years of experience as a tutor, trainer, and instructor, in individual, college and corporate settings. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and learning.

Engineering: My engineering background is a testament that women can succeed in math! I have an Industrial and Operations Engineering degree from the University of Michigan.

Counseling: My counseling background is a strength in helping students to deal with the emotional aspects of learning: fear, frustration, and feelings of inadequacy. My Counseling Masters degree is from Oakland University.

Business: I have over 20 years of direct and contract business experience and an MBA from the University of Detroit. I was also a GMAT training associate for 12 years.

My approach to tutoring is customized for each individual student's needs. I believe I have the skills to help you identify your needs and master your subject matter.

Business

Business covers a broad range of topics including accounting, management, finance, organizational behavior, statistics, and more. My experience is unique in that it includes over 20 years as a management employee at Chrysler, several years as a self-employed businesswoman, and nearly ten years of teaching management and business college courses. I also hold an MBA from the University of Detroit. Whatever your needs, I am qualified and eager to help you expand your knowledge in this area.

Career Development

Many people today are finding themselves either undecided about a career, stuck in their career, in the wrong job, or out of work altogether. If any of these describes you, I can help. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with extensive training and experience in career exploration and development. I have helped thousands of people (undecided students, burned out adults, disabled veterans, and unemployed adults) evaluate their career options, make career changes, and overcome career obstacles. Key to making a good career decision is having a solid understanding of yourself and the world of work and finding a match between the two. We can work together to make the best choice for you and then take the necessary steps to implement that choice. If you've already decided on a career but are stuck, I can help you explore solutions. If you're unemployed, I can work with you to target job prospects and maximize your chances of getting hired. Let's get started! Your career is too important not to invest in the services of a professional.

Handwriting

I have helped several students with handwriting. In one case, I worked with an ESL student who needed help writing in English. Another case involved working with a student who desperately needed to improve his notetaking skills which led to a focus on handwriting.

Public Speaking

Public speaking can be critical to your success whether you're in school, in business, or pursuing political office. There are multiple aspects of public speaking which must be mastered in order to be effective: overcoming your anxiety, understanding your subject matter, understanding your audience, organizing your topic, using stories to communicate your message, engaging your audience, and using your voice and body language to maximize your communication. I can help you excel in any or all of these areas.

My experience as a public speaker has contributed to my success in teaching it. As a published author and therapist, I've spoken to groups ranging in size from 10 to 300 on a variety of topics. My experience as a workshop facilitator and college instructor has also sharpened my skills.

I enjoy sharing these skills and have successfully trained people in both corporate and academic settings. I look forward to working with you!

Study Skills

The student's current approach to studying will be assessed in order to identify what works and what doesn't.

I have two years of experience as a tutor employed by Macomb Community College. In this position, I helped many students improve their study skills. I have also worked as a private tutor for many years and am experienced in helping students improve their study skills. Most recently, I volunteered with the Macomb Literacy Project to help adults improve their reading skills.

Excellent Tutor — Linda is very patient and professional. My 15 year old son needed some help with study skills and he was having problems in Honors Algebra. Linda has given him many helpful tips to stay organized and several study skills. My son said Linda explains Algebra in a way that he understands much more than his current teacher. I highly recommend Linda as a tutor. ...
