My name is Sarah and I am a senior in college. My major is in Political Science, and I am planning to seek a master's degree in Public Health upon graduation this coming April. Last summer (2010), I taught English to francophone students in Ivory Coast, Africa. Throughout high school, I tutored many students and friends facing difficult courses and upcoming tests. Spending one on one time with people is very easy for me and I love to help people succeed. My strengths are in language arts such as literature, spelling, and reading comprehension. Also, I am fluent in French with a wide range of conversational skills and vocabulary. During high school, I was a member of National Honor Society and involved in concert band, jazz band, and marching band.
In tutoring, I seek to determine the true problem. Some students do not do well in courses because of distractions while doing homework. Others missed a key lesson that hinders further comprehension. When I tutor, I strive to find what each student needs as each is an individual with different abilities. Something I emphasize is that in school and tutoring, there is no easy fix and it is the student's responsibility to follow through and participate as much as it is my responsibility to fill in the gaps or offer study tips- whatever the student needs to succeed.
For me, tutoring is not simply a job. I want you/your student to succeed very much and hope to be a part of the learning process. Thank you! I look forward to hearing from you soon!!
