Learn to stand out from the crowd -- and get ahead -- with ideas, knowledge and actions that are distinctively *you*.

Find out how to impress others with your attention to detail, proper presentation and clear, correct information.

It all adds up to effective communication!

I've been journalist for 35 years, having worked for Gannett Co. newspapers for most of that time in Michigan and Delaware. My work meant developing extensive knowledge in many fields, including government, politics and history.

For many of those years, I also operated a business which took me to eight U.S. states as a performer and public speaker. I've performed in more than 50 plays and interactive mysteries, many of which I wrote and produced.

For my professional work, I've received awards from the Michigan Press Association and The Associated Press. For my theatrical work, I've received two awards as a playwright.

I have a strong background in the literature of the printed word, including works for the theater, and because my graduate minor was in history, I can help students better understand the sweep of world events.

As a manager and coach, I helped many of my professional peers learn to read and write better, and to work effectively with others.

I intend to do the same for you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I have worked professionally as a public speaker and performer since my teenage years, frequently as an independent entertainer and later as a representative of my employer. In recent years on the U.S. East Coast, I was a frequent speaker to public organizations as well as private groups, focusing on the subject of memory and history.

The goal of a public speaker is to select a subject that is interesting, then determine how to present new and intriguing information in an entertaining way. As a tutor, my goal will be to train students to do just that!
