I am a certified teacher in both math and science grades 6-12. I have five years of teaching under my belt mostly in the sciences. I have taught all sciences from middle school science (all grades 6-8), chemistry, physics, biology, anatomy and physiology, alternative energies, ecology, earth science, and physical science. I have experience in tutoring students in math in geometry and algebra. However, I am certified to teach all types of math and am willing to help with any math course! I have tutored in the past with the Upward Bound program and have done private tutoring. My goal in tutoring is to help you, the student, learn study skills, learn how to use critical thinking skills to solve problems and to build confidence in your own ability to solve problems on your own. I act as a guide or facilitator.

I have a degree in biology and did very well in my botany class. I have worked for Tahquamenon State Park as an assistant naturalist and as a nature instructor at Bay Cliff. I feel that I can be of great assistance to any student studying botany since the key to success is learning how to use the tools such as field guides and observation.

I have taught P.E. to high school students in the past. I have taken courses in Anatomy and Physiology as well as nutrition. I have a degree in Biology and a thorough understanding of the human body. I have been a gym goer for 12 years and have knowledge of weight training as well as cardio vascular fitness.

I have taken a course in genetics and did very well. I have taught genetics to both middle school students and high school students. Most of what I taught was Mendelian genetics with the use of punnett squares and family trees. Also, I have worked with real chromosomes before and understand on a microscopic level how the DNA and RNA work. The microscopic dictates the macroscopic outcomes. An understanding of both is crucial for a complete understanding of how traits are inherited.

Linear Algebra

I obtained my certification in math in 2009. Linear Algebra was one of the last courses I had to take in which I received an A. It is fresh in my mind and I still have my book to refer to. In order to really understand linear algebra, one must learn the order of operation and of course which math rules to follow.

Microbiology was part of my major in college. I studied bacteria and viruses. I have done further study by taking medical microbiology in addition to regular microbiology. I still have this book from college as a reference along with a bacteriology book for more in depth information. There are a lot of details in learning how different aspects of microbiology were discovered as well as about each type of bacteria and virus. I feel that I could be of great assistance in helping fill in gaps for any student.

I majored in biology with a focus on pre-med classes and have taken two nutrition courses. I have a microscopic as well as a macroscopic understanding of nutrition. I can help explain structures of proteins, fats and carbohydrates as well as how they are processes and used in the human body.

Organic Chemistry

I have taken organic chemistry in college and did very well. I used to tutor friends through the class. From three dimensional views of carbon based molecules to how they interact, I know I can be of assistance to any student taking organic chemistry.

I took zoology in college and did very well. I think the key in being successful in zoology is learning the basic qualities that place a particular specimen in a specific taxonomic group. Once the list of qualities is memorized per group, the classification becomes much easier. I can be of great assistance in teaching these skills.
