Welcome, welcome. My name is Rob C. I am a highly gifted, keenly intelligent, passionate pursuer of knowledge. I am not your typical human being, let alone tutor. I am unique in my gift to connect seemingly vast fields of studies and research. I strive towards high ethical ideals in both my scholarly and personal life. My unique training brings with it a high sensitivity to human equality, diversity and the means to alleviate suffering through educating the poor, disenfranchised, and generally, anybody who is in need of tutoring needs. Everybody deserves this chance to find that spark of curiosity that propels their future life. The wonderful thing about education is that anybody who has the right attitude and desire to practice and study, will improve their understanding, and ultimately, grades. What every struggling student needs is a tutor who can help them improve in their weak subject areas by providing positive feedback and admiration for their strong subject areas. The key is to find their strengths, that gives them some confidence, and use that confidence to help them recognize their own innate potential to learn whatever subject they put their minds to. Its all in getting them to see that learning is more than just memorizing dates, concepts and facts. It can become a passion if the student is lucky enough to find a role model, like myself, that can help them see how their subject areas can relate to their personal lives. This is where change happens. I'm only a minor player in this relationship, it is truly the student that does the work, I simply show them the way by helping them to see how their subject is relatable, and this gives them the tools they need to find the motivation to learn the subject. In short, I am more than your simple tutor, I am the face of wisdom and compassion. It is probably likely that I am more knowledgeable than most teachers your student will encounter. It is a rare gift to unite comprehensive, comparative learning in science and the arts, but is even rarer to find one with a keen ethical and philosophical foundation. I am not Einstein, but I can be the voice of reason and light in your student's tutoring needs, if you let me.
Now that I have given you the outline of my character, style and philosophy, I hope that you will bare with me a little longer! It is safe to say that if you have followed me this far, you have already made your decision. Wait one minute! I ask you to be a little more patient as I provide my history and credentials.
To start, I am a student at Central Michigan University. I am majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Philosophy. You may ask, "how do those subjects relate?" Well, understanding how cultural and biological differences vary from society to society, in an evolutionary context, gives light to how humans think, create and find meaning through their writings, philosophies, works of art, music, and self-expression. Applied in the correct way, philosophy can compliment anthropology, and provide valuable insights into the nature of the human mind, and how various societies and cultures grapple with the "big" questions of existence. How all cultures understand their given reality, ultimately determines their mythological lineage, which determines their collective identity, ideology, morality, ethical practices, sexuality, traditions, and their linguistic, grammatical rules and concepts, i.e. language. This grants me a solid ground for understanding in theory, argument/communication, logical reasoning, and insight into the most puzzling questions of existence, while giving me a broad, solid ground from which to contextualize and understand almost any liberal arts subject. Having proficient knowledge in philosophy helps me understand human nature, how we think, our intentions and our behaviors. This naturally leads to an ability to communicate a variety of different subjects to students, helping them see how their subjects fits within the whole, and giving them context, naturally, this leads to a richer understanding of the subject, allowing us to work more effectively on the subject at hand.. When students start to see this connection, they quickly pick up a broader appreciation for how it relates to their lives. My goal is teach students solid reading and writing skills, as well. This is an indispensable skill needed for future education and success. My hope is that my passion for learning and dedication to growing will inspire students to further heights in their academic life.
I am a compassionate person that will respect your student's individual learning styles, disposition, skill level and personality, as best as I can. To me, education is universal. It has the ability to ignite a person's passion, inspire them to achieve their dreams and continually grow and transcend their shortcomings. It is a transformative process of unfolding and fruitioning one's passion. This has invaluable implications in a student's identity, self-esteem and self-motivation. Educating means having the power and courage to explore wherever your imagination and curiosity leads you to. Knowledge is power. I hope that I can be that sort of inspiration to your student. Practically speaking, I am very flexible in hours and hourly rates. I will accommodate your situation as best as I can. I will determine the hourly rate based on the level of the subject(s), and the distance I will have to travel. I am willing to meet at the student's home, learning center, or school. I do not do internet tutoring.
