Harvard College, Cambridge, MA
I have been tutoring for the last 10 years throughout middle school, high school, and college. I worked as a director of a program coordinating mentor and mentee pairing for Harvard Students and high school students in Boston. I ran this group for two years and we had over 25 different pairings in the program. I also mentored my mentee about school, life, and college applications. In addition, I was an English as a Second Language Consultant on campus, and I worked with graduate students on improving their English skills and literacy. I have also worked as a tutor preparing Chinese Citizens for the U.S Citizenship exam as well as making them more comfortable with the English Language. Finally, I worked in Kenya for three weeks as a teaching assistant in math and English. I worked to analyze the strengths that students had in their writing and discussed with the Kenyan teachers how to address those issues.
My tutoring methodology involves identifying the student's strengths and weaknesses as well as their interests. I try to draw cross-curricular references to make the learning very interactive and fun. I feel that students who engage the material by direct application to their lives will better learn and understand the material. Some of my tutoring methods can include word games, addressing specific study skills, and encouraging the student to seek out more information than necessary to gain a better context of the material. Learning in context is always more beneficial to the student.
Cancelation Policy for Current Students: Cancelation of a lesson must be at least 24 hours in advance of the lesson in order to allow me to plan my schedule. If cancelation is made less than 24 hours in advance, then a late fee equal to one hour of tutoring will be assessed. Christopher has been helping our son study for the ACT. He is very well versed in each of the subjects and test sections. He was patient and adjusted well to our son’s learning style. Christopher was also very flexible with our son’s busy schedule. We would recommend Christopher for anyone that needs help studying for the ACT.
Besides being a smart, young man, he is also a very good teacher. We have been very pleased with his assistance with Chemistry and Algebra 2!
Very open and understandable for rescheduling. My daughter thought he knew so much about history and helped her to better understand the chapters. Well prepared and patient! Will definitely see him again!
Has only been helping my son for a few weeks and there is already improvement in his grade in pre-calculus. Would highly recommend!!
Chris is very good at taking difficult to understand material and breaking it down for the student to understand. I would highly recommend him
Christopher has been working with my 16-year-old son since summer, first on summer school algebra and biology and now on 10th grade geometry and chemistry. Both math and science are tough for my son, but I hear Christopher working with him, patiently explaining concepts until they get through. My son enjoys having Christopher as a tutor--Chris is able to relate to my son and works with him in a way that does not make Peter feel self-conscious. Working with Christopher has been a great way to keep him on track with his work. Peter has really benefited. His grades and his attitude have improved. Chris is also very punctual and easy to reach. He replies to emails quickly and has always been on time to sessions.
Christopher is very intelligent and knows his material. He is also flexible and easy to reach by phone. We are having a positive experience!
Not only did Christopher help my son greatly with his Calculus 2 class, he is also timely and reliable. I would highly recommend him for a tutor.
Christopher was patient and thorough for both of our middle school daughters on many subjects. Originally we contacted him about general study skills, which he quickly provided. After he got us organized, we needed specific subject help. So even though we started with one set of needs, he helped us as our list grew. He was clear and professional every time.
My son has struggled in math, specifically Algebra, since 9th grade. He has been to several different tutoring centers. After his first lesson with Christopher, the first thing he said is "That is the best tutor I have had!" He just came home from school after taking his chapter test and was so excited because he is sure he aced the test and never felt more confident taking any math test. He finished before anyone else and even did the 3 bonus questions. I highly recommend Christopher. He is on time for every lesson and explains everything so that my son understands.
Chris was very helpful when it came to Calc 3 and I would definitely have him help me again with any math problems!
My daughter is going into 11th grade in the UCS district; she excels at math and science, but not so much English. She chose not to take Honors English 10 but wanted to take AP English 11. To get her ready and to improve her ACT score, we worked for 6 weeks of the summer twice per week with Christopher. My daughter liked him from the first visit; she thought he was smart and would help her out. She was right. At the end of 6 weeks, he gave her two practice ACT tests, and her score went up 3 points. We can't wait to see how she does in class as well as on the real ACT when she takes it again.
Christopher was able to work with her whether she remembered to take her ADD medicine or not. He offered great test strategies as well as worked to improve her grammar. I would recommend him to other students. We hope we can fit in more sessions during the school year.
I appreciate the time and effort Chris gives to a returning student, or someone who's been away from math for a while. Chris is very thorough and a great teacher.
Great experience. Chris made it easy to understand the terms. He is very knowledgeable and patient, and I highly recommended him. I appreciated his help. He showed me additional resources and came prepared!
Chris is very helpful. He was able to provide a thorough and simplified explanation that really helped our son with his English class. We have been very pleased with Chris and are glad we were able to find him!
Chris really helped my son. My son said he was lost all week and within the hour with Chris, he completely understood it. Thank you very much. We really appreciate it.
Christopher was a life saver. He came into our son's life at a low point in his education and lifted his grades from E's to passing.
We could always count on Chris to be on time and prepared to take on the task of helping a teenager, who wanted no part of school.
A plus for our son was that Christopher has a very "young and college cool" look and it helped our 17 year old trust him enough to let him teach.
We would recommend Christopher to anyone who needs an excellent calm and patient tutor. He is truly one of the best.
Chris is extremely well versed in a wide variety of advanced subjects.
Most importantly, my reluctant son says "Chris is a cool guy that knows his stuff."
Christopher is very helpful. If you don't understand something he does what he can to explain it another way and doesn't get frustrated with you when you still do not understand the material. I would recommend him to anyone!
My son's grades have improved much in math and chemistry and my son seems to like working with Chris, so we are happy with the outcome.
Chris has been very patient and helpful, even when I forgot formulas or continued to make mistakes. He had unorthodox approaches to my classwork which helped me grasp the concepts better than I had sitting in class. He is laid-back and doesn't sweat the small stuff, I didn't feel stressed out or frustrated, as I often do when working on mathematics. I would recommend him to anyone.
Christopher arrived before the appointment and stayed as long as I needed. He was very patient and knows the subject matter. I have only had one session with Christopher, but I foresee positive results in my future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Linguistics Degree, and I am well-versed in the best ways to teach language and grammar acquisition strategies. I have worked improving student's ACT English scores for over a couple years now and I average a 4-5 point improvement for student's in a few weeks' time.
I have worked as an ACT tutor in Math for many years now. I utilize a student oriented approach to make mathematics and formulas fun and engaging. Mathematics is the core of understanding in many fields, so doing well on the ACT Math section can help a student solidify his or her confidence in the study and application of mathematics.
I have tutored students in Algebra 1 over the last 9 years. I have taken advanced algebraic theory classes as well as all underlying mathematical classes through Calculus III (multivariate calculus). I have a deep understanding of algebraic theory as well as appropriate teaching methods that I have developed with a wide variety of clients of all ages and skill levels.
I studied Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Biochemistry as a pre-medical student for 3 years. I have also tutored extensively in these subjects on my college campus and outside of it. Chemistry is an important science that allows us to understand how the world around us operates on a very small scale. If we can begin to understand how chemicals interact and are organized, we can make appropriate and informed decisions in our lives.
I have a language citation in Czech from Harvard College. I not only took 3 years of Czech, but I did primary research in the Czech Republic and wrote portions of my undergraduate thesis in Czech. I did speaking practice with the summer study abroad students from Harvard College in Prague this past summer.
I worked as a Summer Urban Program Tutor in Boston this past summer after graduating from Harvard. I had to create curriculum in Math, Science, Literacy, and Science to review the concepts that the Kindergarten through sixth grade students had learned in school the previous year. I worked in my position for 8 weeks. I taught the curriculum to each of the grades and tutored struggling students privately after the program.
Elementary Math is the foundation for all other math. Although it can be daunting to start from square one in elementary school, the benefits of creating a solid basis of math skills whilst in elementary school is paramount. Multiplication, Division, Subtraction, and Addition are just some of the exciting topics I am able to explain well and make relevant to the elementary math student today.
I studied Linguistics in college. I focused mainly on the way English grammar interacts with other grammars of the world. I take a cross-curricular approach that relates English to other subjects so students get a fuller understanding of the subject.
I worked as an English as a Second Language Consultant for three years while I was an undergraduate. I helped speakers of many different languages (Russian, Farsi, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) achieve excellent proficiency in English through their work with me. We discussed idioms, grammatical structures, sound structure, reading comprehension strategies and learning methods.
I took both an Anatomy and Physiology Response to Pharmaceuticals class and a formal Pharmacology class in college. I received an A grade in both of them. I studied the formal structure of drug synthesis and the mechanisms of action of different drug classes.
I studied Polish while abroad last summer and I had many opportunities to explain myself in interactions through Polish. I am proficient in Intermediate Polish from my interactions abroad as I already knew the basics from conversations with my grandmother in my youth and my knowledge of three other slavic languages: Czech, Russian, and Slovak. I know the method to teach a slavic language effectively as I worked as an assistant to my Czech professor over the last two years.
Pre-Algebra is the basis for all math concepts. I teach in a lively and engaging manner, and I work to make sure students understand the connections between pre-algebra and the real world. By doing so, I have helped many students remember concepts that would be lost so easily without appropriate practice. I have worked with students in this subject for over a decade now.
I studied Pre-calculus at my Mathematics, Science, and Technology High School. We were required to write essays on the explanation of pre-calculus and trigonometry topics. I have tutored extensively in Pre-calculus in college as well.
I studied sociology in college. I have taken classes in sociological analysis and classification of groups in language as well as in education. I have tutored in this subject for three years and I take a very hands on approach to teaching the topic by making it relevant to my students and their lives.
I studied statistics for three years in high school. I utilized statistical analysis of models while I was in college to write my thesis.
