I'm a recently retired English as a second language teacher with thirty-one years of experience. During my years with a public school system, I taught adults who came from many different countries and cultures. These students brought varying skills, experiences and education with them to my classroom. My goal was to help each student attain his/her personal objectives. My primary focus was to help my students improve their speaking, reading, writing, listening and thinking skills in their new target language - English. I always tried to make my lessons interesting, creative, meaningful and fun. It was of primary importance to me that every student show improvement in feeling more comfortable and confident in using English, both within the classroom and in the greater community as well. The fact that I still communicate by phone, letters and email with many of my students from years ago, shows that teaching English has always been much more than just a job to me.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English and Elementary Education and a Master's degree in linguistics with an emphasis on cross cultural studies. Throughout my teaching years, I have worked with students from pre-literacy to advanced levels. I truly believe that everyone can master a new language, it just takes time, patience and motivation, much like anything else that we want to achieve.
If you are looking for help in acquiring a better understanding of English, then I hope that you will contact me to be your English as a second language tutor.
