I am an academically focused individual. I have been working in the automotive chemical engineering business for over 5 years. My college background is in Chemistry, Math, and Business. I have taken General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Calculus I and II, Biology, Marketing, and Business classes at a University Level. I have also been playing French Horn for 10 years and have been teaching lessons at Jr High and High School Levels for 3 years now.
When tutoring I work with students to help them come up with solutions on their own. I don't give the answers and require my students to come up with a solution to problems on their own. I find that example problems are the best way to teach Math and Science. Once the students can determine the solutions to the basic problems, I will create a more challenging problems to ensure the student understands the material. The main goal in education is not to get the right answers on a test, but to start thinking at a high level to figure out challenging / real life problems.
French Horn Lessons:
I start the first lesson to determine the level of playing and work on a practice routine with the student. The second lesson we will work on selections from school that may need to be worked on and I will also provide music appropriate to the level of playing. Third and Forth lessons are to work on Technique, Theory, and French Horn Basics (Cleaning, Breathing, Proper Holding, Tuning, etc.). Fifth lesson is pulling everything together. I will assign specific passages and solos to the student. This is also the lesson that I will determine if the student is serious about playing music and let the parents know if I feel we should continue with lessons. (The choice is completely up to the students and parents).
