Hello, my name is M.J.

I am currently in the process of becoming a certified teacher. I am in my 2nd year of substitute teaching for different elementary school districts. I have done private tutoring for students in the subjects: Algebra,Biology,and Basic Math.

I recently graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelors of Science in Education. I will be pursuing my Masters in Science Education next year. As a student I can relate to homework, organizing subject material, and prioritizing assignments as needed.

Algebra 1

Tutoring Algebra: I focus on identifying prior knowledge of subject matter. This allows me to expose the weaknesses that are hindering their ability to work at grade level. Strengthening their prior knowledge of material allows for work on language, concepts, and techniques that will improve to solve problems by following specific and logical routines.

Biology

Tutoring Biology: I like to help make real life connections for the student and the subject matter. Beginning each lesson, I read the lesson title and restate it in the form of a question. Looking over the lesson, noting the following:

Prealgebra

Prealgebra tutoring: I focus on what knowledge the student possesses by giving an assessment of the subject matter. I focus on strengthening their knowledge of concepts and techniques that will help develop each individual student to solve problems by following specific and logical routines to solve problems.

Reading

Tutoring to reading and comprehension involves strategies that will help each individual to learn and take control of their learning by expanding their repertoire of reading strategies. When students encounter difficulties while reading, their first instinct is often to blame themselves and their lack of reading proficiency. But the problems frequently have nothing to do with them.
