I am a professional writer/editor with a bachelor's degree, a master's degree and professional certification as a teacher of ESL. I'm an expert communicator who excels at teaching others to communicate orally and in writing.

I understand that different students have different learning styles. Some students are visual learners--they learn and remember what they see. Some students are auditory learners--they learn and remember what they hear. Others are kinesthetic learners--they need to experience things tactically in order to learn. Therefore, I work with students to identify what type of learner they are. I then work with them from their current level and, based on the type of learner the students is, I design instructional materials and processes based on the student's individual learning style.

Reading

I specialize in teaching reading and writing to students K-5. I'm sensitive to the various learning styles of students and I design lesson plans and materials that make learning to read fun and rewarding. Since the purpose of learning to read is for the reader to experience, enjoy and understand what he or she reads, I work first on the decoding process and then on comprehension.

Writing

I've been a professional writer in the fields of publishing and public relations for more than 20 years. I have also taught elementary school in all subjects. I'm an excellent writer who is an expert at teaching students to write clearly and concisely.

English

I'm a professional writer/editor/tutor with more than 20 years of experience writing articles for newsletters and magazines, as well as working as an editor for various publishers. I'm a former classroom teacher who's an expert at analyzing a student's learning style and then teaching in such a way to make the best use of that learning style.

ESL/ESOL

I'm a professional tutor who is certified in ESL.
I tutor students aged child to adult in English speaking, writing, listening and reading skills.

TOEFL

I'm familiar with the TOEFL test and can tutor students to prepare for all four sections of the test--reading, writing, speaking and listening.

I incorporate various hands-on practice sessions in my tutoring.

ACT English

I'm a professional writer and editor who is familiar with the ACT English and writing requirements. I tutor various students in English and writing.

Elementary (K-6th)

I'm a former elementary classroom teacher whose specialty is determining the primary learning style of each individual student and then using the student's optimum learning style as the guideline for tutoring that student effectively. I specialize in reading and language skills for early elementary school students.
