I began my career after graduating from Lawrence Technological University with a Bachelors of Science in Architecture, working as an architectural designer with a small architectural firm located in Trenton Michigan. I worked hand and hand with the principal Architect to design and build custom residential and small commercial buildings. I received hands on education of not only the design process but also construction industry practices and standards in the field. I also communicated with vendors and clients throughout the design process helping them to in vision their projects. Even at this early point in my career I assisted high school students who participated in a school to work program with our firm teaching them about the field and some of the key features of the software programs we used.
From there I decided I wanted to get some experience in other disciplines in the construction industry, so I went to work for an Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Firm in Southfield Michigan where I became a Mechanical Designer. Here I learned about the different mechanical systems that are in our buildings, and how they need to coordinate with other disciplines throughout the design process. After excelling in the 3d portion of my mechanical design I was promoted to the position of CAD Manager for the company. The CAD manager oversees implements and enforces company standards and policies that relate to the consistent creation of construction documents. I was responsible for educating CAD user throughout the company on the software platforms in order to increase productivity and efficiency.
I am currently an Engineering Specialist for a Firm in Novi Michigan and continue to work hand and hand with Engineers to create Mechanical Design documents using AutoCAD and Revit software platforms 3d modeling on a daily basis.
These software platforms are very powerful and I continue to learn something new just about every day. My daily work and problem solving are exciting to me and I enjoy teaching co-workers and others some of the exciting features.
Thank you for taking the time to review this.
