In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught ESL for the last 18 years. My core programs are grammar, vocabulary, speaking and pronunciation work. Students should be able to read and be in school or working people who need to function better in the American society.
I am very good with grammar having taught this for the last 30 years in public school and in ESL. Grammar is very important as your skills reflect how people view you. I use books and worksheets and computer websites.
I like to use a variety of methods for teaching reading. It helps if the student is in school and has started reading at a basic level. I taught reading when I was a public school special education teacher.
I have taught ESL/TOEFL for the last 18 years.
As a student wanting to take the TOEFL test I know you are motivated. I really stress the writing and speaking skills for this test and we will practice all the skills that are being focused on for the test.
I use a variety of methods for teaching vocabulary including games and books. To be successful one must have a vocabulary for school, work, life and fun.
